Should be an interesting game today. Will be a good test of our squads mental strength and morale, to see if they can bounce back from last weeks defeat.
As we all know the Gills are on a dire run at the moment, but we are as aware as anyone that runs come to an end some time. They have a strong squad, but will be interested to see how their defence shape up. They were terrible in recent weeks, so Hessenthaler made big changes and they are now playing with Simon King - a quality defender on his day who has glass-like strength with regard to injuries - and Connor Essam, who I was massively underwhelmed with at BSN level earlier on the season, at centre half, with another untried kid at full back (Evans) and a reasonably inexperienced keeper in Gazzaniga. Despite the lack of experience though, they were able to hold out against Rotherham midweek.
Given the fact that their defence seems to be a weak spot, I'm looking for a big performance from Rene. For a start, it's about time he scored against another of his former clubs (so far I think only Rovers have been haunted by his return), but I think if he plays to his best he could really bully the Gills defence.
But in time-honoured fashion, I'd always take a point from an away-day..........
