"He's not got great feet" (heard on more than one occasion) why is he getting paid to 'play' FOOTBALL then?
"Defending isn't his strong point" said by Andy Townsend of Kyle Walker WHILE HE WAS PLAYING FULL BACK FOR ENGLAND FFS! :slap:
Newcastle United, North East giants. Not won a thing in most peoples living memory.
And my favourite, Newcastle's famous No9 shirt. Hughie Gallacher, Wor Jackie, MacDonald, Shearer, err, err, some others...(Micky Quinn ffs?)

what do managers actually mean when they use the expression -
"we earnt the right to play" or "we have to earn the right to play".
i have used this expression in posts. in my mind it means to roll your sleeves up a bit, win your tackles and do your best to win the game, give it 100%, use your skills to the best of your ability, keep the ball etc. .
when the usual cliche merchant managers come out with it, i usually feel they are thinking along the lines of kick absolute f**king $h1t out of the opposition, foul 'em a bit, rough 'em up, get to 'em, hurt 'em, injure 'em. damage them until they are too hurt, knackered, worried or injured to do much with the ball, therefore the ball and the game are ours for the taking and we will win the game, we earnt the right to play.
its like the ones that say to defenders when instructed to mark a forward - "let him know you are there".
they dont mean introduce yourself, by saying "hello, my names john terry, how are you old boy", and then shake hands.
what they mean is kick the f**ker from behind, chop him down, drag your studs accross his calfs, hurt him so bad he thinks twice about trying to play football.
