Quite a lot of cats don't kill birds GS but a lot do out of play, mine don't but as I live next to a brook they have a plentiful supply of wild British mammals to chomp on. They do eat them though. Birds in general provide the cat with an opportunity to display natural behaviours and fulfil their natural hunting instincts but often they will just play with them until the bird has died, I've not seen a cat eat a bird yet but they do kill them inadvertently by catching them and taunting them.

Cats are great because they are just so gormless that it is hilarious just looking at them. I can laugh more watching my cat for 5 minutes than if I watched 4 hours of Jimmy Carr DVD's.

The other plus in favour of cats is that, unlike dogs, they do not attack people, and they certainly don't kill young children. The old wives tale about cats suffocating babies by sleeping on top of them is simply a myth. Cats are never as aggressive as dogs. They always try to avoid a fight, even with other cats, and will only lash out if cornered. Cats seem to spend most of their lives asleep, so much so that I sometimes think I could get a stuffed cat and not notice the difference, except for the savings on cat food..!!

I've always wanted a really big cat, something the size of a Lynx or Puma. There is a new breed that size in the US or Japan but it's expensive, and obviously its food would cost more. The way round that, of course, is to train it to go out and control the local dog population, and people would think it's the Beast of Bodmin or wherever. And I wonder what people's reactions might be when I took it out for a walk and on the busses... Camp or what, Dave..?? Anyway, beats puny pit bulls... =D

Dogs like three year olds are not just for Christmas...
By comparison the cat is low maintenance. If we head out for a couple of days, we chuck down extra food and tray of litter - all sorted!

nah. I just prefer to think myself of even more macho and manly than others because I'm not afraid of your tired and clichéd labels.

I'm secure!
