Went to Ukip meeting and Farage is by far the best leader in this country and is not frightened to say it as it is. He is not racist otherwise I would not vote for his party.

It would not surprise me to see Nick Clegg making personal attacks on Nigel Farage and other members of UKIP rather than focussing on the issues, because he knows he cannot win the political arguments against Farage.

And it appears that UKIP are also expecting smear campaigns in the coming weeks, beginning with one by pro-EU Times journalists: http://www.ukip.org/newsroom/news/1242- ... -the-party

I'm pleased they've both agreed to this debate. Well done to both.

It's much better than the farcical situation on a debate on Scotland's independence. Alex Salmond only wants to debate Tory leader Cameron (because Scots hate conservatives) and Cameron (quite rightly) says Salmond should debate the leader of the 'IN' campaign, Alastair Darling. Of course, Salmond refuses. Stupid situation.

Back to the EU debate, I just hope we learn more of the facts. I know it's a long shot with two politicians but if they just clearly lay out the positives and negatives of staying in or going out then let us make up our own mind. Of course, I fully expect them both to put political spin on their argument.

I imagine both of them will come across fairly well. I did like Clegg in the pre-election debates in 2010 and, as we all know, Farage is a charismatic fellow. I just hope he stays true to himself and continues just talking common sense. For example, I actually like that he admits UKIP made huge mistakes in the past and doesn't try to 'spin' everything into a different statistic or political angle. It's a nice change and I hope he sticks to it even though his role is becoming more prominent.

First debate 7pm this evening, Wed 26 March.

Clegg does himself no favours, doesn't speak with any passion and with the same robotic recycled words.

I'd say Farage won the first debate.

BUT, and it's a crucial but... I'm not sure I've heard enough to make me put the 'x' next to 'out' on a referendum piece of paper.

Farage is a leader I would like to see him Unite with the Tories and boot Cameron out. Ukip will get my vote in the next election as well as Euro vote.

I can't see anything in that article that shows that the BBC is pro-Clegg at all.

Clegg's criticism of Farage's Putin comments (Mr Clegg has called Mr Farage's view of Russia's president "utterly grotesque") came in the third paragraph. Farage's rebuttal did not appear until near the end of the article. A great many busy people would not read the whole article in detail and so would miss Farage's response. Such presentation places greater weight on Clegg's remarks. So insidious is the psychologically subtle bias that even people such as yourself don't notice it.
