What do you suggest we do?
It's how a club like ours survives and brings people in we can't spend money even if it was January still. We have to bring loanees and freebies in. Just like the rest of our squad were at some stage.
Our squad is paper thin at the moment, Zebroski missing tonight but soon as it went 1-2 there was no one we could turn to for a change.
As long as Robertson plays at right back and Stevens is a regular we will never challenge for top 7.
The start of the season gave a lot of flase hope, we're not good enough for that just yet. We were scrapping for our lives last year this year we'll be fine so it's a progression.

How on earth do you work that out?Southampton Gull wrote:Shane, you gave six examples and the ratio as I see it is in favour of Buckle, you are so negative it's unbelievable.
Oastler has been decent, Hemmings and Rose weren't interested, Gritts barely used. The other 2 obviously haven't been here long enough to comment?

thing is royal, some posters on here got a bit delusional thinking we could or should make the play-offs.royalgull wrote:What do you suggest we do?

we should be ok about being a league 2 club for a few years before we get ideas above our station.
reasons
1. crowds
2. finances
3. attracting players
enough said.

Of course we need more players - i'm just not convinced filling a squad with loanee's is the answer. They simpley aren't as commited as permanent signings. If we can't afford to but anyone, we perhaps ought to have been looking further down the pyramid for players that might be able to make the step up, or freebies looking for a deal?royalgull wrote:What do you suggest we do?

As for Robbo, i have no idea why you continue to berate him. He's a centre-half playing out of position and doing a decent job of it. There aren't many occasions that he's our worst performer.

Hemmings and Rose both showed lots of promise, obviously why they were signed in the first place. Oastler looks good to me, Robinson scored keeping up his run of form. Stanley has Morecambe fans crying into their beer at his loss, and Gritton didn't get much of a look-in.
With the constraints placed on our budget I'd say Buckle has done well. Obviously because he sold your golden boy he's to blame for our squad being weakened and now is no good at utilising loan players? He had no choice, accept it because we don't have a choice either.

Of course the finances are not helped when locals stay away from league games either!!

You're putting words in my mouth. I'm not saying 'he's no good at utilising loan players'. I'm suggesting the idea of filling the squad with loan players rarely works because their commitment is not the same as those players who rely on the club for their wages.Southampton Gull wrote:Hemmings and Rose both showed lots of promise, obviously why they were signed in the first place. You continue to disregard everything i say as the utterings of an eternal pessimist without actually trying to understand the point i'm making.

Absolutely.
Posters grumpy because we won't spend any money, tonights attendance 1600. We have no sugar daddy so where does the money come from? People through the gate. Crowds of an average less than 2500, a budget that is in the bottom 4 or 5 clubs in the league. We will not get playoffs this year but we will be bette rthan we were last year.
We are a League 2 CLUB at best. There are ways we can improve but it comes from what we've done developing our young players. We've got some but they need help right now.
The loan market is our only hope. That and those lads without clubs right now.
*I like Robertson as a centre half, he 'does a job' at right back but as long as you've got an out and out centre half like Robertson playing right back then you've got no hope. That's nothing against him personally but he lacks the quality on the ball to get forward and help out attacks. He also lacks the pace and mobility in that position. Does a job, yep fine but don't expect torquay to do anything in this league when you've got people 'doing jobs'. You need specialists*

Perhaops people have very good reasons for not being there this evening, and people shouldn't make assumptions.scottbrehaut wrote:Of course the finances are not helped when locals stay away from league games either!!

No assumptions were made Shane - I was speaking factually. Less fans = less money = less transfer budget = selling our better players.

Of the four that arrived before yesterday, one proved worthwhile. That's not a good ratio.
You said that, I didn't put words in your mouth, your point was quite clearly made and answered.

There is no doubt the performance on Saturday, and the frustration felt at the subsequent draw and losing our top scorer will have had an effect this evening. People are only human, and the disappointment is understandable. There wasn't much to inspire confidence or excitement this evening - as it proved.scottbrehaut wrote:No assumptions were made Shane - I was speaking factually.
