i agree but i would be amazed if he were to be put on the bench. my point about the highlights is that what is the point of trying to have a debate about players' performances when some posters come on here and criticise them because of their own preconceived opinions about certain players (in other words players they dont personally rate ) and find out afterwards from the highlights that they were targetting the wrong players unjustly :slap:

I have to agree with Matt, those who rely on iplayer to form an opinion should take into account that there is a 99% chance Matt was at the game. It is not to say he is always right though........

my point is that the posters who are at the game should check their facts before condemning players to the scrapheap on this forum and then finding out when they get back from the highlights that they were wrong, having already unjustly criticised certain players .

I have to disagree with you, and stick up for Matt. Just because you see 5 minutes of "highlights" on iplayer doesn't mean the player had a good game. A player could have stood there scratching his arse for 89 minutes for all you know, but on the highlights you will see the 1 good tackle / shot / goal the player made. Where as week on week Matt (to give him credit) was at the games and can make those criticisms. What other members cannot do is question his findings based on a 5 minute highlight show when all they are going to show is the best bits any way.

Cheers Paul, this is what I was trying to convey, but failed to do so. Nothing against Gullosaurus (which is what I'm not calling you, Gullsrus, because it is a damn cool name), but I cannot bring myself to explain once again that I DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING AGAINST BRIAN SAAH! I say he is crap, not because he's black, or short, or from Cambridge, or Jewish, or a vegetarian or any other far fetched idea, I say he is crap because, thus far, he has been crap.

Brian Saah has indeed been crap, but so has all our defence. This may be down to our central midfield not getting control of the game, leading to the defence having to deal with lots of attacks, some of which they will eventually screw up. As I mentioned in the Dagenham thread, after half time Mansell was playing purely as a Defensive midfielder, I think this may be the key to better defence and better times.

Absolutely right. It is a vicious cycle of lost possession and long ball football (which we simply cannot do!) It's not a lack of effort from the midfield, it's just that, at the moment, every single loose touch or slip or anything seems to fall straight to an opponent. I accept that this cannot be bad luck and it must be something we are doing wrong. It doesn't excuse the performances of Saah and, to a lesser extent Oastler and the odd error (usually costly) which Mark has made. Our only dependable defender this year has been Nico, but that really is to be expected.

I rate Oastler, Robertson, Ellis and Nico, I still feel that Saah and LRT are valuable players within the squad but that doesn't mean that certain combinations will work. I guess my ideas on the Robbo and Ellis point is pre-conceived BUT it is based on what I've seen before. I don't slag off any of our players when watching games but I do reserve the right to air my opinions on a forum, afterall that's exactly what it's for.

Saah isn't playing well at the moment but then neither is Oastler and Olejnik for that matter. A few clean sheets, a bit more confidence and things can change. Maybe Saah could do with being dropped to make him realise his performances thus far have been lacking but I'd be very surprised if he doesn't know that already. Same goes for Ellis and Oastler, I'm glad Ricey had a good game because that should help Olejnik as well. We aren't world-beaters and as long as we get enough points to not have to worry about relegation I'm happy to debate the pros and cons of players on here till the cows come home.

Luckily it's only a first degree tear, I guess Ling will play Mcphee up front with Atieno unless he's going to play a 4-5-1 formation.

Those options seem reasonable. I'd like to see McPhee or O'Kane in the "hole".

Even though we're at home, I would still prefer to see us play 4-5-1. It will work better with Lings patient style, If we play Macklin on the right it's like playing with a striker, he's that quick and is always looking to get in behind. I'd go for Lathrope in for Howe and start with Macklin on the right. Let's hope this isn't a repeat of last seasons Macclesfield horror show.
