Didn't Dean Edwards just effectively manage to lead a consortium of numerous Torquay businessmen to pull together and invest several hundred thousand in the club? That seems to be something of a success on the commercial side.eddyh wrote:Dean Edwards however has done a dreadful job on the commercial side in my view so I've little or no faith in his ability as DoF (like we need one of those, as pointed out already).
Have Steve Breed and Deano invested money ?
It's my understanding that Dean and Steve - along with Mark Bowen - rounded up this consortium and are responsible for Torquay still having a professional football club. Without their sheer hard work, passion and determination we'd be out of business or at the very best, on the brink of going bust. Their first act has been to replace a manager 90% of fans wanted out with a proven and experienced alternative who has an excellent non-league record. I don't know any of them personally but will buy them a pint if I bump into them at a game, shake their hand and say thank you for saving our club. It's fine to ask questions but to criticise them at this point is quite frankly ridiculous.
Hopefully this new position for Steve Breed will mean he is no longer able to commentate on BBC Radio Devon!
Is there no position he could offer the undertaker-Chris Fleet!!!!!!

Why is this thread still running,? Does it matter really. They are football people who give every impression that they know what they are doing.

It never fails to amaze me how people will desperately seek a negative angle on every story. S*** Stirrers are crawling out of the woodwork.
As many others have said, if Dean and Steve hadn't stepped forward with the other members of the consortium, we'd all be looking for something else to do next season.
I say, Back Off, leave them to it and lets unite and look forward to getting behind the club again next season.

TUFC never fails to let its fanbase down.

Have Steve Breed and Deano invested money ? I, personally do not the answer to that. What I do know, is, it does not matter one jot if they haven't, have the C.E.O and director of shopping at Sainsbury's, Tesco's and all other available supermarkets invested money into those business, of course they haven't, so why this obsession at Torquay.
Been said above whilst I don't know him, I do know Steve Breed runs his very successful business, and Dean Edwards was employed by the previous board, none of us know what ideas Dean may have had to drive the club forward, only for those above him to say, no, you can't do that. Dean now has the freedom to do a job.
Steve Breed, Dean Edwards and Paul Cox will be judged by the board on what they actually achieve for the football club, and they know that. What for the life of me I can not understand, is why a very 'small' minority can not just back off and let them get on with their jobs, there is no need for this negativity when they have not, yet, been given a chance to show what they can actually do for the club.
Should these people fail to achieve in their individual roles, then we the supporters will have the right to question it, but, please lets give them a chance, our backing and support.

I appreciate you haven't criticised them in your thread' but I find the whole thread a tad disrespectful. Those 2 have helped save this club, and any money they may have invested or not is completely irrelevant, the experience they can give is probably worth more than any money they could donate.Leroy wrote:This isn't a criticism more an observation but on reading the Herald today it appears that Steve and Deano have been 'co-opted' on the board and are not investors I was always under the impression that they'd put their own money in with the rest of the consortium but this doesn't appear to be the case.
Have I read the article wrong ?

Behind-the-Gulls wrote:As someone who worked for many years providing services and support for older people in the Bay I know of Steve's domiciliary care business and it's very well run, with caring well motivated and trained staff who will go the extra mile for their clients. It's a tough business, with exacting standards and there are plenty of inadequate money-grabbing providers in the care industry believe me-Steve's business is definitely not one of them and the recent Care Quality Commission(CQC) inspections of his care agency, which are very thorough, are complementary about nearly every aspect of the care provided .
Running a football club will be very different of course, but I have no doubt Steve has the skills and competence to do a good job at TUFC too-give him a chance.
I would just like to say how much the above post is absolutely spot on and every word could not be more truthful.
It makes me chuckle when I have read a few people in the last few days grumbling, over analysing and looking for negatives, this week has been brilliant so far, everything I have seen and heard from these guys and the new consortium already have really brought back some excitement and passion for TUFC for me, Im almost bouncing off the walls with optimism and anticipation.
I can appreciate people will have questions about who's who and what they can do, I am under no illusion, I truly believe now that those running the show will know what they are doing and will always have TUFC's best interests at heart, whatever decisions are made will ultimately be for good reason, like others have said "as long as we still have a club", thanks to Steve, Deano and the consortium we have. I know Steve will work his butt off for TUFC and always do the right thing and if Deano works as hard off the pitch as he did on it, we will be just fine.
You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.

After reading some of the bollocks and bile from some people, on this thread and others, that clearly have axes to grind for some reason (particularly those who have recently joined), I almost wish that the club hadn't been taken over....seriously, show some **** gratitude that there are actually people out there that have been willing to invest thousands of pounds of their own money into this club.
Yeah, there are going to be cuts along the way, however that HAS to be the case - if Thaea had stayed, she would have been left with jack shit, as this club was pissing money up the wall.
Instead of some of you bitching and moaning, why not look at the bigger picture - that you actually still have a club to support. I know that I'm very bloody grateful!!
