The recent trip to Cheltenham gave me some ideas we could 'steal'.
For example...
-> a Programme draw - too run alongside the 50/50. Buy a programme that has a 4-number code or whatever, at half time, small money prizes, meal at a local restaurant or whatever.
-> Advertise it more around town. Set up a membership scheme (or improve our existing one) so that you can get discount in shops in the Bay. 10% off Topman, Dominos, etcetc. Can't be too hard to get in touch with local shops/businesses to maybe get some agreement where if you're a member of the TUFC Supporters Group (example) you have a card that allows you discount in stores. Thats something that would pull me in!
-> Game deals. Cheltenham are a club similar size to us. They pulled in 2900 on a tuesday night, we struggle to get that on a Saturday. One of the reasons, I reckon, was that kids were free when with an adult. Why can't we do that? Tuesday night or Saturday. People are much more likely to turn up if they're saving a bit. It may cost the club a bit of money, but once you get people coming in, regularly, you can get that money back.
Posters with the future fixtures should be available. I went into Newton Abbot JJB today, and there were Exeter shirts!? I mean, come on. Newton should be our territory, to be honest!!

Blimey, I would've battered her.

tommygull wrote:I agree with cosmic that there are so many empty seats at Plainmoor that giving out a few free tickets each week for competition prizes and even for school prizes is free. I also agree that a presence in the town is important and in this time of relative 'recession' gaining advertising space sould be cheap. Doing deals with local people such as a bus company to run trips between town and plainmoor and back should be pretty simple (seeing as most school buses are left dormant at the weekends they would do it on the cheap also!). I think the people who sit in pubs in torquay watching Jeff Stelling on a saturday are a target for the club and so advertising in these places would help also. As would advetising in the tourist information for holiday-makers. I'm sure that many a beach-going dad would love to get away from the kids for an afternoon if he knew there was some local footie available...
And hotels and self catering holiday flats and caravan/chalet sites.

Some are open all year (coach hotels). Probably wouldn't add many, but add up all the small numbers from wherever the advertising posters are seen, then who knows.

For Cod's sake, more Spam... =D
With reference to the posters, I think the TUST were appealing for volunteers to take fixture posters round to shops once a month, don't know if they are still producing them?
Agree about the fixture board, but the only problem with that is that Plainmoor is a bit tucked away, so the people viewing it would be very limited I'd imagine.
Wouldn't any forumites be prepared to contact the Club about maybe dishing out fixture leaflets in town one Saturday morning? I'd do it but a) don't get to many games these days and b) would find the shops too distracting...

Just me getting confused. It wasn't JJB, as there isn't a JJB in Newton. Silly me. It was actually Tony Pryce.
£40 for an Exeter shirt? Who in their right mind would buy that?

I posted the following on this thread a couple of days ago !!
You can now download fixture posters from TUFC official site to post in your local area etc, the March poster is there to be downloaded, sorry I do not know how to post the link!! Click on 'more news' and you will find it!!

All we need now is everyone who works in town or knows the owner of a shop, cafe, takeaway etc etc etc, to place a fixture poster in their shop window!
On a slightly different subject, while out on my two hour run around the bay today, I saw no less than six people wearing various items of Torquay United clothing, OK so one of them was Robbie Herrera and you could argue that it is his uniform, but still a good turn out! Just for the record, I didn't see a single Man U or Chelsea item of clothing on display! :~D
