I guess any roller is not going to help the problem area which won't drain. I guess Plainmoor isn't alot different to the field where I walk my dogs.
As soon as there is a dry few hours the wind dries the ground quickly and you could play football on it no problem. However at the bottom of the field there is an area where there is a collapsed drain.
Its completely like a bog there and never dries up because it doesn't drain. You can therefore understand why we cannot get any games on.
Just heard the five day forecast on Radio 2 - more significant rainfall. The Accrington match is some way away but unless there is any big improvement the following week that won't be on either.

One of the great mysteries has been solved. I could never understand why the greatest GILBERT of them used to walk around the ground (not as Gilbert) with a t-shirt which proclaimed One Can Lasher. This puzzled me for years. Now I know! So his real name is Bruce Cann, well, well, well.

Collapsed drain will have to be dug out and replaced, so if it's that (and not the record rainfall) we won't play at home again until it's fixed. That can't be until the dinner because of the damage it will cause and the time it will take. If it's the Bench, we'll have to wait until our year old, £2m stand is demolished and rebuilt differently. That'll take a year and £3m. Again, we won't be playing at home again. If it's either of these, we'll lose our FL registration and cease to exist so it won't matter what the pitch is like.
Alternatively, if it's the record rainfall to blame, we wait for that to stop and we're just fine.

hi , why cant we cover the pitch like Yeovil do, there pitch was dry as a bone, they get the same weather as we have been having.?

I suspect they do oke gull, especially in the worst places. However, once a watertable is above the ground level then what good would it do?

It about drainage and if the water has no where to go (drain bust / watertable etc) then not a right lot you can do.

With what I believe are frost covers not fully water proof pitch covers.

Not sure how much difference one of these would make on our sodden pitch but actually the "blotter" as it is known, that Exeter borrowed from Somerset CCC is quite a bit more "heavy duty" than the one shown above as can be seen here. I would imagine something like this would cost quite a few £s mind!

Dont know if the club have thought of, or used anything like these, but - Along with ideas about blotters or super rollers to take off the pitch any excessive/standing water here is a few examples of machines I used in my old job which would get rid of any large water or chemical spillages. These things are brilliant and they can suck up anything. We worked with all sorts of nasty, dangerous stuff, so muddy water or even puddles wouldnt be a problem.( And some are not expensive at all, hiring is cheap at £79 a week).

Just a thought!

It might seem a bit weird the thought of hoovering the pitch, but it could be a cheap, very practical solution.

Club shop is entirely separate from the club. Although Andy might stick his head round the door and ask on our behalf (because he's a thoroughly good egg), a more direct approach will be to the club shop itself. I haven't the will to find the email address or phone number, but Google will have them.
