I'd literally been at Nuneaton for 24 days, but then Darlington showed an interest, sitting in 9th in the league above the one I was in, and I decided I wanted the job. I didn't like Nuneaton anyway, had no money, was a part time club and wouldn't let me get a parent club. I quit and Darlington offered me the job so I've just taken over!

Just got up to December where the demo has ended for me.

Started off with the mighty TUFC and after my initial annihilation of Crawley Town (6-1), it all started going wrong for me. I made a silly team talk whilst 1-0 up against Hereford in the League Cup, I basically said we hadn't been playing well enough and I was disappointed in the performance. (They were all over us and we got a lucky goal on the counter-attack (an own goal, at that) and we didn't look like scoring at all). Most of my players got annoyed and the morale dropped to abysmal. I ended up having 4 losses on the bounce and it took a 1-0 JPT win over Argyle to haul me out of it.

After that, it was all fairly plain sailing. Ended up a respectable 9th, only 2 points off the play offs with a game in hand and a better goal difference. Rene Howe and Omar Koroma were my joint top scorers with 6 each.

Decent signings to recommend:-

Omar Koroma - Fast striker who actually scored most of his goals with his head and doesn't ask for too much on wages. Free transfer at the start but get in quick, once he plays in the trialists game he gets quite a bit of interest and he asks for more wages.

Chris Cleaver - Defensive Midfielder who comes from SJK in Finland, asks for 2/10's of f*ck all for wages (I'm paying him £150 a week!) but cost 14k to buy him. He is an absolute beast, set him as a DM with support and not much gets past him. Well worth blowing your budget on him!

Rui Marques - Centre Back (ex Leeds) who is getting past his best but still very good for League 2, only spending £575 a week on his wages.

For formation, I've been playing a 4-3-3 with a midfield triangle of Cleaver, Manse and O'Kane. Upfront I had Howe in the middle with Koroma and Bodin on the right and left respectively.

Biggest tip I can offer is this - look at your Assistant Reports on the squad screen. Worth it's weight in gold. Rather than having the star rating it's had in previous games, it tells you which is the best setting to play your players in. I wish I'd discovered this earlier in the game!
Luke.

Seems like you're going the right way while I'm going the wrong! :'(

Still, if you can get Darlo into a more secure financial position then I don't think it would be too hard getting them out of the BSP. Kinda regret applying for the MK Dons job now, as it proved costly.

A little hint, Darlo have a sell on clause for a player called Dan Burn (or something) - look in transfer clauses and see if you can sell it. I sold the clause for £150k, which in the end didn't really help me much with wages/transfer budget, but it cleared a small chunk of the debt.

Haha, he has. They're in a better position for him than when I took over though!

Yeah I have, only waited two weeks before Southport offered me a job. Lower reaches of the BSN. Won my first game 3-0 away though. I reckon I can get them back in the BSP in a year or two, then see what happens. Hopefully a promotion under my belt will help a bit.

Sign up Tony Bedeau for them! He was like my favourite player here so i try and sign him for whatever club i am managing if he is vaguely good enough. He is currently tearing down my right wing for Truro... :) Also, have a look at Gareth Williams, he might have already been snapped up, but he is quality and joined me at Truro in the BSS

Haha, I'll have a look next time I'm on it. How's Truro going? Got to the league yet?

Haha yeah sorry about that Nick, dog eat dog and all that, if a job comes up then you've got to go for it ;-)

I've gone over my wage budget by £2,000 already but I've signed a couple of players who I think will be capable for this league and the league above, and hopefully they could push me to promotion this season. Simon Dawkins from Spurs, 24 and will be a great striker in this league, scored two on his debut in a 4-0 win! Also snapped up Sole Aluko who was still available, which is another great signing.

Also, the clause for Dan Burns can only be sold for £60,000 so I'm not sure whether to use it or not :/

Haha, totally agree mate!! I'm hoping I won't be hanging around the BSN for too long!!

Sone Aluko! Absolute machine for me when I signed him for Darlo. Averaged 7.45 over 30 odd games, scoring about 12. Tank.

Some lower league recommendations:

Izzy Iriekpen
Jamil Adam
Jamie Mole
Abelairas (forgotten his first name but he's class)
Aluko

I'm thinking of getting this for my birthday, that is if my new MacBook comes by then. Reading this thread, it seems that most of you rate this game. So, should I make the purchase?

I agree with Nick - Jamil Adam is immense. He can't stop scoring for me....I am playing a 4-2-4 (although strictly speaking it is a 4-2-2-4 as my "wingers" are in between the midfield two and the forward line.
Bought Aluko and Adam, and a couple of others (forgotten their names at present - will look when I get home)

Got Aluko on the right (although he is supposed to be left winger he is good on the right despite what his stats say!!), with Bodin on the left....Nico left back, Ellis and Saah at the back with Manse right back, midfield centre pairing of O'Kane and Lathrope and up front Howe and Adam.

Unbeaten in pre-season, drawing against St Johnstone (we were losing 2-0, then scored twice in the last three minutes), and beating Plymouth 6-0 (Adam scoring 5 and an own goal), along with several other teams....just got to the first game of the season, can't wait!!!!

Haha. I'm not doing a Torquay game atm, but my brother is. He's top of the league after about 16 games, lost only once. I scouted all those players I've mentioned up there using my game, he's signed them all and is running away with it! Mole and Adam have scored over 10 goals each already! :)

Wow, not bad PR!

I had both on my Torquay game on 11, Petrucci for 3 years, before I sold him for 350k. Drinkwater wasn't much of a success, had him 6 months before selling him for 425k having bought for free! I didn't have either when I was in League 2 though.
