Downes didn't do too badly, the penalty was a bit soft although he lunged in for it.
Actually to be fair to Downes, although it has been widely reported (including Sky TV) as being given against him (grey haired number 5) you can quite clearly see it was actually given for a shove in the back by their (presumably) left back !

Looking at players released from League One clubs this summer there are still some decent players available - Liam Chilvers, Pablo Mills, Sam Sodje, Aaron Brown, Cliff Byrne - players that may have to be looking at clubs at a lower level as they have not been signed by anyone yet. I think we also maybe looking outside of the free transfer market now and looking at players that have been pushed down the pecking order at their clubs by summer signings and may come here on loan.

Ling suggested he had two names on his agenda and I have a thought they were David Artell and Michael Raynes, both going elsewhere.

We can't afford to sign any players that have a history of injuries as our backup is still vulnerable (which is my only worry about signing Michael Poke) so Aaron Downes wouldn't be ideal.

Aaron downes has a history of injuries and dinger aint prepared to risk getting him in, pablo mills would be a good signing but has temperment problems

You sound like you are in the know! Any idea when we can expect developments on this?

As in he was the cornerstone of the Battle of Bradford incident last year which, disgustingly, didn't result in any real punishment for either side. Apparently, bringing international shame to English football in general, and L2 specifically (no Wayne Rooney jokes please) is perfectly acceptable and worthy of an insignificant fine, but mishandling your paperwork in relation to a perfectly legitimate loan deal, that DEFINITELY warrants the deduction of a point we didn't win!

Sorry, bit much?

Matt.

Don't surpose you know if this are initial talks or if they are further progressed talks?

Also - (seeing as you seem to have some insider knowledge) is Ling looking to add after losing McPhee and possibly Macklin or are we likely to have a squad of 22/23 to start the season with?

Finally - what will the lottery numbers this weekend??!!

Thanks for any info you can share :)

Just to throw another name into the hat, how about Ben Chorley at Leyton Orient? He would be an excellent addition in my opinion.

Someone linked us with a move for him a couple of weeks back (on one of those "rumours" sites) and it seemed a bit fanciful to say the least given that he is captain of a League 1 team after all .... but perhaps the idea isn't quite such a long shot after all. The O's have today signed another centre half from Huddersfield (Nathan Clarke) and now all of a sudden according to fans on their forum, they seem to think it's most likely that Chorley will be the one to be shipped out.

I just wonder, given the Orient connection (although he arrived after Lingy left) and the fact that Lingy himself hinted that now is the time of year that players begin to find out that players have been brought in to replace them and they are no longer in the Manager's first team plans that this is just the type of player/situation he was thinking of.

Pure guesswork mind you!

That would be a real coup. Heart says its possible head says not. Fingers crossed CP gets member of the month again for this guess!

Confirmation we are trying to persuade Downes but have competition with league 1 club Yeovil. On paper we lose out here but hope Ling can change it in our favour.

Hope he has a plan C if this does not come off!
