I'm a Scunthorpe supporter, and regret to say that many of the things said in this thread sound worryingly familiar to what was said towards the end of his time with our club. I don't in any way blame him for our exit in the Championship, as things were already going really badly before he took over. But things only seemed to get worse under Alan. The team often seemed to lack ambition and ideas. The players didn't work well as a team. We had so many humiliating defeats, and for the first time Glanford Park felt like a really negative place to be. We too were in a difficult financial position.

I don't want to kick a man when he's down, but I hope things work out for you in the long run and wish you the best. Scunthorpe have hit a bad patch of form lately so you might have a good away win coming up in 2 weeks time :P

This is exactly the problem. Knill is about as inspiring as a brick. To me, its obvious that even the players dont rate him. He offers no inspiration at all. His demeanour is dreadful and it shows on the park. There is a big decision to be made in the next day or two imo. Keep him and the reality is that no one can see where a couple of wins are going to come from. Let him go, at a cost obviously, and a new man may at least have a positive short term effect.

If there was a final straw today was it. Before the match I was told by someone on the pop (although I am sure it is completely unconfirmed and therefore not true) that there was a board meeting on Tuesday where knill was told he had three games to save his job. To be honest given the opposition I think even that is too long as it could mean we are adrift by about 6 points after the Plymouth game.

If you had to ask me who I'd like to take over I couldn't be sure. However, I'm not sure I quite agree with the what seems the popular choice - Chris Hargreaves. Great captain and leader? Without a doubt. But this is a man whose only experience is coaching a youth side. Do we really want to place the huge task of retaining our league status on his shoulders? I'd argue we need an experienced firefighter type campaigner brought in until the end if the season. There are a couple of names who fit the bill - perhaps most notably Martin Allen. I'm not saying he is necessarily the right choice but I don't think it would help our plight to sack knill and bring in ch at this stage.

I heard the same thing about a board meeting as well. But when a manager is told he has e.g. Three games, what does that mean? What is the point? Does drawing one buy him another month and then back into the same position? As soon as the board is considering, then they may as well act. Everyone knows Knill is going. What is the point of prolonging it, even for two more games?

It's not like a caretaker manager could do any worse.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but what about Neil Warnock with Tarzan as his No2?

I agree, if anything it looked like most of the squad had wind of this (if true) and we're trying to play him out of a job after the opening 20 minutes!

A combination of Doink the Clown and Stevie Wonder couldn't do much worse really. We'll be coming out to Circus music if we keep this form going. We have been truly awful for the majority of the season but the last two have been a new level of crapness.

Well theres 1 down if its true, if we lose VS Accrington then we really are in the crap, table is still a bit weird, win a couple and you can pull right away

From what ive heard, Brass is a player favourite and shows a lot more passion, Knill out and Brass as caretaker manager?

I agree. He was the real reason we got to the playoffs in Lings first season.

Who would you have instead? If Martin Allen wanted it, he'd give the players a kick up the backside. Chris Hargreaves knows the club, therefore financial situation, I imagine he would show a lot more drive. Who else is out of work? Umm, Holloway? what's Warnock up to at the moment, director of football? If he accepted a fraction of what he was on. Him and Hargreaves could work well, new manager and an experienced manager together. Obviously in dreamland there.

Whether we can afford to sack him or not, maybe he should recognise that, and just leave? Do the right thing Knill
