Well, he was offered a new deal. I suspect he is waiting to see if he gets offered a better deal elsewhere. If he doesn't, then I guess he will probably sign but he is probably entitled to some time before he has to accept or reject the offer.

Even though Manse has gone stale in the last two years, no fan can deny that his spell down here has been a decent one - he (like Nicho) deserves a warm send off if he does move on.
I thought you didn't post on here much?

Why is it harsh? I've admitted he has been a great servant to us in other threads, admitted that he could still do a job for us in the conference but that the time has now come to respect his service but dispense with him for the sake of moving forward.

I'm sorry but I just don't get what you are commenting about.

The way you have written your point makes it seem like he is a poisoned presence at the club and nothing could be further from the truth. He has been hurt more than anyone by what happened last season. Cut him and he would bleed yellow.

Regardless if the time is right for him to move on he far from deserves the suggestion you are intimating

I cant believe Mansell has been offered a new deal, whatever it is. No way in hell I would have kept him once his contract was up.I would have thought a fresh start or clean slate and a clear out as much as possible would have been the best way forward. It is definitely time Mansell moved on.

Before all those supporters who have a crush on him kick off and have a go, disagree and shout me down, or Lee spits his dummy on Twitter and whines about Torquay fans not loving him - its nothing personal, his time is up, if not long overdue!

I'm sure he's a top bloke, good to have around the club, great in training, pivotal to spirit in the dressing room and all that, but I just dont rate him as a footballer, I never have. I cant actually believe he has been here as long as he has.

To be fair to him if i had my way I would clear out every last one of that squad if possible with the exceptions of Pearce and Cameron and even if they went I wouldnt lose any sleep over it.

This use of the word Legend for players really gets on my nerves, its bandied about far too easily. All those calling Mansell, Nicholson and Hargreaves legends, I would really like to know what for? Yes they have had good times at the club, yes they have all given 100% when playing, yes they were part of the squad that got us back in the football league, but Legends? Never!

All will go down as part of the clubs history, all might even go down in United folklore, possibly Hargreaves might qualify for the Torquay United Hall Of Fame for his wembley goal and being captain, none of them though are Legends!
Is this not way too harsh then Richinns or is it just saved for me? =D

Nothing harsh about it, just giving my opinion which just so happens to be the truth. :|
You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.

Me too chunks. It just seems that although other fans like yourself are of the same (fair) opinion about the issue, some feel it only appropriate to pick mine out for scrutiny. Makes me feel honoured actually. o:)

we're all taking notice of you Andy, even though you're in disguise ! Nearly had to get an alias myself earlier, site wouldn't let me in, & I haven't even been controversial recently ! There are quite a few fans hoping for a good clear-out, Manse included...nothing necessarily personal, just wanting as fresh a start as possible. Fourth Saturday approaching of no footie.... :B :B :'( :S :S

I still can't believe he's a Herbalife distributor. Biggest pyramid scheme going. In fact, they're being investigated by the Federal Trade Commission over here for being just that (technically pyramid schemes are illegal, and the FTC is going to try prove that the main crux of their 'business' is recruiting new distributors - who pay them - rather than actually selling anything). I read a stat a while back that said that less that a quarter of one percent (so <0.25%) of people selling their stuff actually make any money.

Well, with a couple of weeks left before he has to make his mind up on our contract offer, this may or may not be a significant development but check out below who is the latest addition to the PFA list of available players...

http://www.thepfa.com/transferlist/list ... 1/-1/-1/1/

I cannot see any of our other out of contract players who have been offered new terms on there, but it does appear that Manse has maybe decided he wants to actively put his name out there in the hope of getting a better deal elsewhere.

The issue for me would be that if players such as Mansell do end up signing for us then they will be playing alongside inferior players who will be on far bigger money - for example Hawley.
Thats a recipe for disaster if ever there was one and will probably mean a divided squad - hardly ideal for team morale.
I would be far happier having Mansell in the squad than Hawley but really there doesn't seem a way out of it really.

Lets face it Mansell will be at Torquay next season and he's got Torquay through his veins. If Hargreaves wants him it's up to the fans to support him.

Is there any news ?

It is now over a month since the season ended. I understood that Mansell was given a month to make up his mind on the contract offer.

As there does not appear to have been a rush from any other clubs to snap up our listed/out of contract players - does this mean that Mansell has no other income generating option than to sign again for us ?

Hopefully the offer is for 1 year only, because I, unlike many others, am not convinced he has the ability to be a stand out/good conference player. Just because he looked good 4/5 years ago doesn't mean he will flourish again.........he is 4/5 years older.

I thought football contracts pretty much come to end on 1st July, in which case Manse will have a wage for this month, but, he will be in position where he needs to make a decision about his future soon. I'm with Lee Mansell here, I don't blame him for one second taking his time on deciding what's best for his, and his family's future, this not just for Lee but for lower division footballers full stop, they don't earn great money and have no security, middle supermarket managers are earning as much, some cases more than your lower league footballer and are not on fixed term contracts, Lee will make up his mind soon and I'll respect his decision as a fan, whatever it may be.
