brief report from the match

Quite an engrossing half, but by no means our finest 45mins of the season.
We've played some great football, but only in very sporadic patches. Gillingham have been given far too much space, and playing very direct and their front 3 (Tomlin and Kuffour especially) are causing us problems.
We've had the lions share of shots on target, but they have all been side-foot placed efforts, and right down the keepers throat. They've had more possession and some periods of sustained pressure, but haven't tested Bobby at all.
Highlights of the first half were Danny cutting inside early on, and curling a cross-shot onto the far post and away. For them, Weston and Kuffour linked up, Kuffour danced his way through to an open goal until Oastler steamed in and slammed the ball off the line, taking Kuffour, Nico and Bobby with him in the process. Stunning defending.
The ref is a total moron. Booked Howe for a late challenge early on, maybe a little harshly, but when Kuffour does the exact same thing 5mins later it's not even a foul. Tomlin has been hauled up for around 7 infringements, but still no yellow.
We've shown that we have the ability to cut these open, but need to tighten up at the back. Would like to see tai on for Howe - Howe is drifting wide, losing possession and walking a bit of a tightrope. We need some to play through the centre and stay there.
Finely poised.........

Shocking miss from Rene.
Then we never managed to clear our lines, put pressure on ourselves and concede. Typical
