My main bug bear with international football is the scenario when a player who is eligible to play for 2 or 3 different countries opts to play for the crappest one as it is the only way he is going to play international football. That's just wrong and the passion that comes from within towards the country you love just cannot be manufactured for a country you don't love. I'm sure i've gone over this before in a topic months and months ago but it really annoys me to death. Myself for example, although not a very good one as England are a better team than Austria (just!) ;-) I would always choose to play for Austria because it is in my heart and my blood and my soul. If i was selected to represent England because i was a world class player new on the scene then i'd turn them down and play for Austria. Like Ryan Giggs i suppose. But cack players who long to play for England but have got no chance suddenly dig out an Irish relative and it's off to the Emerald Isle for a good old knees up, a bit of craic, see some leprechauns, bet with paddy power, have a guinness and turn out for a country you know nothing about and have no love for whatsoever. :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@ :@

What do you England fans think would be an acceptable scoreline tomorrow night then against the might of a handful of electricians? I'd say that a minimum of 6 is required and that would be disappointing. They say there are no easy games in international football anymore but there is one - this one. We've got a double header against the Kazakhs and if we fail to register 6 points then they can all go and eff off and munch on their bratwurst! Immer Wieder Osterreich!!!

It should be atleast 6-0, like you say. Double figures isn't unrealistic.

Didnt Germany beat them something like 14-0 a while back? Agreed it should be a minimum of six. This is the game we need to score a load in and get our GD up.

Dave you great big plank. Don't put him off. We need every darned fan we can get. Goodness man I would buy em down the market if i could. We can't afford to lose any. OR he will bog off back to Austria and we will get em in some micky mouse cup and he will score 6. Anything can happen. You never know.

I will be at wembley tonight - got a couple of tickets and am taking the missus along as I have promised her goals. It's been fun trying to explain to her why San Marino are so s*** and how it is almost impossible for England to lose.

That said, I do have a theory that we seem to "go easy" on teams of this calibre. You look at the Germans or the Dutch and you'd see them rack up 8 or 9 against San Marino, whereas we consistently top out between 4 and 6, almost like we give up on the hour mark. Goal difference can matter - particularly in a tough group like ours - so I hope we don't ease up tonight.

it is expected to be a one way street...but how many of you remember a few years ago when we were saying we need min 8 goals to qualify against San Marino and THEY scored in the first 25 seconds !!!!
I could not believe what i was seeing ....
these games are a no way to please situation so need to get out of the way...if we score just a couple...then we are crap ..if we score loads...well they are only San Morino....big banana skin out of the way and await the tricky away game on tuesday v Poland

I think the contrary Kingsgull. Based on the gulf in quality between the two teams there can be NO excuses if at least a 6-0 win is not registered. Likewise a 2-0 win is unacceptable. So everyone knows what is expected of them and if the players go out there and do what is expected of them then there is no problem and no danmed if you do damned if you don't scenario. If England win 2-0 then, yes, in my opinion you are crap because it shouldn't happen. If England win 6-0 then IMO England have got the job done but nothing else. If England win 10-0 then i will be fairly impressed. What i don't want to happen though is for England to go 5-0 up first half and then second half there are no goals as usually happens.

0-0 draw in Kazakhstan and campaign over after 2 games. Gutted and embarrassed.

Oh and by the way, how the hell has Jonjo Shelvey managed to get in an England team? Words fail me.

I had Austria on my big accy, along with France and Turkey. All 3 failed to win so that ones done already. Got another 40/1 one today but I did win £1.05 off 50p last night, thanks to England, Germany, Spain, Italy and Sweden!

Don't even know if I can be bothered to collect those winnings!
