Awful draw. Almost certain defeat given that they very comfortably beat Oxford 3-0 with a strong team, and not a big money maker either. There were under 8000 there yesterday with a big away following.

well I'm ecstatic about that draw! absolutely perfect draw for me, work with loads of blades and I'm pretty close to their ground too! ideal! tv game perhaps?

So the game against Barnet is postponed then? Pity in a way. With Argyle next weekend, and Port Vale going through a lack-lustre period, that could have been an extra nine to twelve points by Christmas. However, don't discount a good result for the Gulls at Bramall Lane; and a draw would be a good result.

Another away draw. Lady luck has definitely turned her back on us after several years of home fixtures. It seems that Buckle's luck is still in though.

Good points - good gate receipts to share and a chance to measure our team against one of the better clubs in the lower divisions.

Bad points - long way to go for most supporters and little chance of win money or progression to round three and the hoped for big teams

It's not even much of a money spinner - as Gulliball says they got just under 8000 there yesterday, boosted by 3000 Oxford fans. We'll probably take 400/500, and it's hardly a game to excite the locals.

There'll be around 7k there which won't get much, and we'll get done over.

Great draw for me! Only 2 1/2 hours drive south AND I get to see a couple of old mates!

Just to confirm... Does this scupper the Barnet game? Where will that be moved to? Me and a couple of mates had already planned the trip for that Friday as we all play football on Saturday!

Barnet is the Friday after (9th). This will be on Saturday 3rd December.

Just checked, we were in the same division in 1981-2. A 1-1 draw and a 4-1 defeat. The Blades only drop into the lowest tier.

Anybody know about the Cup?

They (along with their neighbours, Wednesday) are the "biggest" teams outside of the Championship and even though there was only just under 8,000 there yesterday - it was still comfortably the biggest attendance of the first round. I would suggest that it is comparable to getting to the third round and drawing a mid/top half Championship side away in terms of the revenue we might expect to make from gate receipts.

I guess it just shows how the FA Cup is not held in as high regard as it once was as an attendence of just under 8,000 is some 10,000 less than they currently average for League matches and indeed they had over 17,000 for the visit of "mighty" Exeter just a few weeks ago!

I take some encouragement from the fact that Exeter's shot shy forwards managed to score FOUR times on their ground a few weeks back .... when they've only scored FIFTEEN all season... so we have some hope of making progress given our current run of form. No chance of it being on tv though as the TV companies format for picking televised games seems to be almost set in stone and one requirement always seems to be that in the case of a potential giantkilling the "minnow" has always got to have been drawn at home. So, perhaps if we had of been at Plainmoor we might have got lucky but no chance with it being at Bramall Lane.

Obviously the first thing you want in a cup draw is a winnable home tie. Failing that, you've got to want one of the biggest clubs in the hat, and we've got that. They are a side with recent premiership history, great fans and a big ground. I'd rather go out having had the chance to visit a nice big ground than go out with a whimper in front of sub-3000 at somewhere like Carlisle, Brentford etc, or even worse run the risk of getting turned over at a non league club. This way, we go there with no expectations on us and a chance to test ourselves against a strong side.

I don't get all this moaning about "it's not a big payday" either. It's the second round of the FA cup - none of the games are. If sheffield utd "only" got 8000 or whatever yesterday, it's still probably the biggest attendance of the round. 3000 Oxford were there - take 2500 off the away attendance and there were still probably 5500 - higher than most clubs got. It's as moneyspinning a tie as it gets at this round.

I'm looking forward to it, regardless of result.

Well said, CP! Their goals against at home is down there with the worst in the division.
