New Signing
There isn't a problem with it. But this is a lad doing well in his league getting a lot of attention from other clubs, he might not want to sign anything yet, prefering to see where the best offers are.
I would of hoped his mind would of been made up when he played for us in the behind closed doors match. Buckle is very good at selling the club afterall. We need to move fast on this - something we seem to be very poor at doing in the past (Ademano ring any bells here!)HRG wrote:There isn't a problem with it. Exciting prospect if we manage to bring him down here.HRG wrote:There isn't a problem with it. But this is a lad doing well in his league getting a lot of attention from other clubs, he might not want to sign anything yet, prefering to see where the best offers are.
But I agree with HRG, I think its wrong to assume he'd want to up sticks and come all the way down here just because we've put in a bid for him - I know we are a League team and can offer better wages and pasties, but its a long old poke. That said it'll be interesting to see what happens over summer.
It depends on whther this lad has an agent,or is receiving shall we call it professional advice,in which case there is no doubt that he would have been advised to sit on his laurels and check out all offer's and wait untill the summer, and for Matlock as afootball club i do not blame them, they can afford to wait untill the last minute and see if one or more clubs are prepared to stick there neck's above the water and pay the price for this lad.
Think for our club they need to make a decision on how much they want to sign him,if the answer is they do want this lad, then return and pay the money, yes it would be a risk, sometimes to get what you want ,a risk is just what you have to take.
If they are not that bothered on this lad, then move on and look elsewhere, there are some real gems playing at the evo-stick league level etc, keep looking and you shall find.

There is no way a lad playing for Matlock Town will have an agent.
I'd imagine as ever with us, it depends whose interested and whose actually offered him something. If we've got in their first and he liked what he saw then we'd have a great chance of signing him. No offence to the Matlock Town supporters who have come on here but there is no way he'd turn down a move to a football league club to stay playing in the northern premier is it? He'd be mental to do that.
If the likes of Chesterfield or other clubs around that area have made him genuine offers then we'll struggle to beat them. Not just financially but a move there would mean he doesn't need to move or go too far from his comfort zone.

It would be a pretty expensive risk though Forever. I like the sound of the lad, I'd be happy to have him here. But for double what was paid for Zebroski? He was an established league player, and having been on loan with us we knew what he could do.
Matlock can't really afford to wait, there's only three months left on his contract they are in a poor position for negotiations. Demand daft amounts of money and how many teams in the conference or league can afford £50k+ on a risk. Not many. In which case his contract expires and Matlock kick themselves for being so stupid. I can understand why Matlock don't want to lose him, he is the team, but they're being ridiculous.
You are right though Forever, there is plenty of talent to be found.

I don't know, when I played for Newton Spurs years ago I was contacted by an "agent"...might have been a paedo though :-oroyalgull wrote:There is no way a lad playing for Matlock Town will have an agent.
To be honest from what it sounds like Torquay is one of a fair amount of offers (and championship sides have said to be interested) and it would be silly to accept the first offer on the table when as a club Matlock should be looking for the best price they can get.
Secondly if he did move to a L2 side the wages may not mean he is better off as he would have to play full time which would mean giving up his job as well and if he is in a good job that pays well then he could end up with less money than he is on now at Matlock and from his job.
Finally this is such a non thread as nothing has really happened and from what it looks like is that Torquay went a different way and brought in somebody else instead.

For a lad of his age,who has scored the number of goals he has allbeit in the evo-stick league and who is sparking intrest from a number of league clubs,do not be at all suprised if he does not have,or has been offered professional advice, from an agent or elsewhere.

I agree with you,it would be foolish for Matlock to bite the hand off the firt club who offered them a piece of silver for Ross Hannah.12345 wrote:To be honest from what it sounds like Torquay is one of a fair amount of offers (and championship sides have said to be interested) and it would be silly to accept the first offer on the table when as a club Matlock should be looking for the best price they can get.

But what i will say is this is not a non thread,as we have only loaned a striker from Ipswich and i very much doubt that our club's intrest in Ross is over,as the player concerned from Ipswich is seen as very much one for there future and i doubt will be with us past his loan.

You will get nothing for him in the summer if Matlock do not accept a bid now.12345 wrote:To be honest from what it sounds like Torquay is one of a fair amount of offers (and championship sides have said to be interested) and it would be silly to accept the first offer on the table when as a club Matlock should be looking for the best price they can get.

Best for your club if you accept a bid (small though it is) and negotiate a sell on fee and also a loan back till the end of the season to help your promotion bid -is it not?

Or he stays and helps the play off bid then we gain promotion which would be worth more money than selling Hannah right now.Richinns wrote: You will get nothing for him in the summer if Matlock do not accept a bid now.

A pre agreement is an idea but like i said why rush it if there is other clubs offering to pay likely better money than Torquay want to pay right now
Hannah is more valuable to the club right now than say 20K is and as Matlock are a club that are doing all right financially (new stand and clubhouse etc...) then this is the wisest move for them right now.
An offer has been made and rejected so something has happened.12345 wrote:Finally this is such a non thread as nothing has really happened and from what it looks like is that Torquay went a different way and brought in somebody else instead.
Are we not free to discuss on our own forum the player that our club obviously wanted and to speculate as to why that offer was rejected? Being a discussion, it has evolved a bit to include the absurd suggestion that an Evo-stik league player is worth £50k or more and whether or not he has an agent whispering in his ear. This thread will run its course soon enough, but you seem very eager for us to stop discussing your player.
He has not signed a deal as proclaimed by the thread though and since as far as we know Torquay haven't come back and made an offer then right now there isn't much to talk about it would seem but if Aden Flint can move from Alfreton for 150K then i don't see why Hannah who has scored over 70 goals in two seasons and is a vital part of Matlock's squad should move on for as little as 20K.HRG wrote: An offer has been made and rejected so something has happened.

If a championship side came in for one of your players and offered a small amount of cash because he wasn't tested at that level then i'm sure you wouldn't be over the moon about it, football is about taking risks and giving a player a chance in a higher up division is a risk.

Also we must remember that it is Matlock who have come out an said TUFC have had a bid turned down for the player, apart from Paul Buckle confirming to the local rag he is tracking Ross hannah our club have made no statements to either confirm or deny that any bid has been made.
Untill our club comes out and says, any deal to sign Ross Hannah is dead, this disscusion will run.
