Elsewhere in the bay

In the excitement of Saturday’s game at Plainmoor another team from the bay was vying for promotion namely AFC Brixham who won their playoff to move up to the lower division in the Southern League from the Western League.
I was a local referee from 1991 to 2018 and remember refereeing Brixham who then played in the lowest tier of the English pyramid- the south Devon league.
By merging Brixham United FC and Brixham Villa FC to form AFC Brixham the club has risen through the peninsula leagues and the Western League. They have significantly improved the ground including installing floodlights so perhaps in looking at setting up pre-season friendly fixtures AFC Brixham could be booked in for the Gulls.
PS - those of you looking for a piece of sporting action this coming Saturday could go to Astley Park in Brixham where Brixham rugby club are playing in the semifinal of the Papa John cup with a final game at Twickenham the following weekend being the prize for the winner.
