Transfer discussion 25/26
I’ll kick silly season off.
Will Jenkins Davies released by argyle. Would happily see him sign on.

Exeter have released both Angus Macdonald and cheik diabete, silly season indeed but would be 2 cracking signings if neither wanted to relocate and we could afford them.

He told us six weeks ago if he was released and could not get fixed up, he would be more than happy to stay at Torquay. He is a lovely lad, went school over the road and was a Popsider.gullno4 wrote: 08 May 2025, 11:18 I’ll kick silly season off.

Can't believe Angus McDonald keeps getting mentioned 0% chance he's coming here, played numerous times in L1 and well by all accounts reading a lot of Exeter fans comments on his departure - he isn't going to drop 3 leagues!CourtierGull wrote: 08 May 2025, 13:38 Exeter have released both Angus Macdonald and cheik diabete, silly season indeed but would be 2 cracking signings if neither wanted to relocate and we could afford them.
We do seem to be slightly obsessed with former players, I see Ben Wynters name knocking around too, hopefully PW continues to look forward, not back

I would see WJD as a probable signing.
Ben Winter is sure to get a club around London, where he wished to be based, particularly given his injury record this last season.
If Angus McDonald wants a South West club I see Yeovil or Truro the more likely option at this stage, we already have a solid back pair and experienced cover in central defence.
We should be looking for quality midfield players who become available

Lapslie is basically a guaranteed signing and although he’s an obvious improvement in midfield if he’s gonna miss 15+ games again that’s no good. I’ve heard of a few that are leaving already(midfielders) that are a surprise but will wait too see the retained list to see if that’s true.

Not the slightest bit surprised that Will Jenkins-Davies was released by Plymouth.
Plenty of energy, not a bad in front of goal but basically just a reasonably ok NLS player.
I am continually surprised that so many supporters rate him so highly.
Torquay are obviously short of the quality necessary to win this division. It is essential that we sign a number of players better than what we have at present.
He is far from being our best midfielder in an area where we are deficient and in need of significant improvement.
Let's not fall into the lazy Gary Johnson ploy of re-signing players simply because it is easy. It will take a lot of work, but we must strive to recruit to progress the squad.

Holy Smoke, not only do we have a new Pope ( nuff said about that ) but we also have someone who like me, realises the futility of endlessly re-signing ex players! The reason they are ex and available should be enough of a clue not to re-sign them. If we cannot sign players better than the National League South, then the National League South is where we will always be!
I would take WJD, blew hot and cold but expected for a youngster. Only 20, already played 70 games at this level.
No to some of the others mentioned. Wynter, Angus, Booth
Lapslie I would, he was one of the better players in a crap team so if he is recovered, would imagine an improved output in a rejuventated team and club as a whole. Just a slight concern on injury record (31 and 34 games respectively each season he was here) but it certainly appeared around those times of 'no lapslie - no pointies' when he was missing.

Difficult to call until retained list comes out.
Harry Kite would be an excellent signing. We may have a fight with yeovil to get him signed on.
I think we are gonna need..
A right back, 3 centre midfielders(1 cdm included), a winger and a versatile forward.
WJD hasn't done enough for me to be a starter, however is still young and could be a useful player and potential for sell on in future if he can get in the side and perform.

Mussa gone. Wasn't offered a new contract.
Lapslie - wouldn't get 15 games out of him.

Laps played over 30 games in every season for us, no reason why after having surgery and a year off to recover that he couldn't do so againbrucie wrote: 09 May 2025, 12:11 Mussa gone. Wasn't offered a new contract.

Clearly there is a decent player in Mussa, but very inconsistent and I am not sure we played to his strengths at times. Was one of the few players in our squad that showed creativity
