Good news at last! Let's hope we get the deal concluded, as we know how these things have turned out in the past.
Ticks all the boxes for me - experienced, respected and local. Good appointment in my opinion.
As for the Aggy deal - that's what I heard was 90% complete when Ling took the job. Maybe that was wide of the mark as it's taken a while to get to even this stage, but certainly looks promising.

Good choice with coaching experience at senior and youth level and importantly Ling's own choice and somebody he will have trust and confidence in. Hopefully next up our new goalkeeper .....

Yep, coaching wise if they can wrap up Russell it looks pretty solid. Now just the small matter of bringing in some players!!

Always thought this was likely to happen, as soon as Boden made himself unavailable.
It's a good thing that Ling has been able to choose his "own man" and they should work well together. Taylor has been involved in youth coaching ever since he retired (11 years ago) with 5 years spent working in the Youth department at Bristol City. He did work briefly as an Asst Mgr at FGR (for just over a year) and then popped up again at Exeter two years ago in a Youth Coach role. He has also applied unsuccessfully to be Exeter Manager on two occasions, being overlooked both times - he did make the shortlist before Inglethorpe was appointed and applied unsuccesfully again before Tisdale got the job.
He certainly had an excellent career on the pitch and was a natural leader, captaining Exeter, Bristol City and Swindon - where he enjoyed tremendous success playing alongside Ling.
I guess it's Goodbye Little Shaun and Hello Big Shaun!!!

To be honest I've not heard of him before but the fact that Ling and he have some shared history is a good thing - you need to be able to work with your number 2, and it seems a positive move. Also, the interest in Russell coming back as a player-coach is very positive. I don't know if he'll be able to play every game, but at the very least he'll be able to work with Eunan O'Kane

I hope 'the morons' do not judge him on his Exeter connections.

hopefully they'll see it as "he left them to join us", but you know there'll be one or two

One thing is for sure - Evans and Raynor will not be getting up to their antics on the touchline with Taylor around!

Excellent news, glad we've managed to finally sort out the assistant manager position. Seems like a good appointment, was a leader on the pitch in his playing days and will hopefully bring those same skills to the changing room. He and Ling could compliment each other well. Hope we can tie up the Russell deal soon as well. He would be a good addition to not only the backroom but on the pitch too. He's getting on now so doubt his legs could cope with every game, but good for a few or some experience off of the bench to see out/change a game.

Excellent news. This, hopefully, will silence the doubters and the moaners. As for Alex Russell: there is, perhaps, one more season in him and, if that's the case, then this is a good signing too.
