David De Gea is the worst goalkeeper I have ever seen in the Premier League. Worse than Barthez, worse than Massimo Taibi, worse than everyone.
Man Utd would be better off waiting for October, finding a conker, planting it on the goal line, then waiting for the oak tree to grow than they would putting that prick back in goal.

Utter, utter trash.

.....yet he kept a clean sheet.

For a keeper that is all they really need to do. Luck or not, he did his job.

No, I won't have that. He was crap, regardless of the score.

What is the job of a keeper?

To keep the back of his net from being penetrated.

End of the day, he did what he was paid to do.

If Martin Rice had had a 'mare of a game but kept a clean sheet would you care?

No, all anybody would care about would be the fact we didn't concede.

Same with De Gea.

I'm not suggesting I care, I'm suggesting that he was crap. There are a number of factors which reflect upon last night's scoreline and not one of them is that De Gea had a good game.

You cannot seriously suggest that, based upon performance and not scoreline, that De Gea was the better of the two keepers on show last night, because he just wasn't.

Jeez Matt, you really ARE a Man U fan masquerading as a lower league fan in order to conceal your embarrassing dirty little secret! IMO De Gea has shown some really poor tendencies to his game but i've seen loads of him in La Liga and he is top drawer (for that league and style of play). I the direct Bolton/Stoke etc style of play in the Prem is unsettling for him and he is just not used to it. He is only a young lad and Fergie has bought for ther future but give me Shay Given anyday of the week, or even Friedel. Only time will tell if De Gea comes good and i think he will eventually be a fantastic acquisition for United.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

As it happens Andy, I have followed United for years. Was lucky enough to know one of their better former players pretty well.
You say about style of play, but I cannot believe that in La Liga, he wasn't asked to get down low to a speculative and not particularly powerful far post curler (missed against West Brom). Come for a terrible cross, completely unimpeded and make a simple, two handed, chest high catch (fumbled against Spurs). Deal with a powerful but low and very comfortable shot from 30+ yards straight down his throat (fumbled against Spurs). Or gather a tame shot, again from miles out, without arsing it right up and fumbling it, AGAIN. (last minute versus Spurs).

Not a single one of those errors would have occurred with EVDS in goal. To be honest, it's unlikely that any of those errors would have occurred with ME in goal, and I am the second worst keeper on earth (behind De Gea, obviously.)

Didn't know this Matt so apolgies. You are allowed to follow Man U as long as you don't become a monster and attend Torquay games wearing their shirt :slap: (as happens at many lower league games and annoys the shit out of me!). :red: I follow two teams also (although one isn't english ) so i can't have a pop can I? :na:

Absolutely no need to apologise at all, it was, and remains, a perfectly valid jibe. As it happens, on your latter point, we are due to visit the worst ground I have ever come across for home fans wearing Premier League shirts. Last time we were at 'The London Borough Of Barking And Dagenham Stadium' (gaaaaaaaaaay!) there were more West Ham shirts in evidence than there were at Upton Park, frigging crazy.

Nothing annoys me more than seeing nippers in Chelsea or, worse still, Man City shirts. They were in the fourth division 10 years ago, would any of them have been seen dead wearing the light blue, I don't bloody think so.
Not really any worse than wearing a United shirt in Devon, I guess, but at least United have some history, some pedigree, City are a tin pot outfit who haven't (hadn't) won a trophy for a million years. There are very few sides with genuine footballing history, United, Barcelona, Real Madrid and both Milans spring to mind, among a very small group of others, the remainder are flashes in the pan.

Oh how kids used to laugh at me for wearing my Fulham shirt on non school uniform days. Back when they too were division 4 "rubbish". How they guffawed in their Leeds United and Bradford City shirts (went to school in rural Hampshire, but I'm making a point), look who's laughing now...

Im going to disagree with you matt. Sorry

The guy is 20 only a month younger than me and he was one of the most impressive keepers in Europe last season and really played well for A.Madrid.
For a 20 year old to have such quality, but yes he will make mistakes hes still a kid in football terms.

The guys only played a few games, he will be up there in years to come and i have seen signs that he really will.
Being a keeper myself and doing some goalkeeping coaching, im happy to say United have a class act even if his starts been shakey.

Anyone remember some one called peter schmeichel, just one of the best keepers ever? Didnt he have a very shakey start.

Perhaps he will come good, in fact, I'm sure he will, but this is the Premier League, there is no room for people to be lagging behind and still learning their trade. It's top class, fully ready, or nothing.

I agree with that, im im sure he is 100% ready. Hes had a shakey start. If Gomes was a number 1 for ages and he made mistakes every week then you must worry.

De Gea has made some top saves, but people forget that and think about the mistakes. Man utd could have consided a lot more if it wasnt for him. Same with any keeper really.

He will be a super star and your be calling him to walk the walk at plainmoor lol

Well he's played 3 man utd games now? At just 20 years old? From a different country? Far too early to judge him in my opinion.

He has big gloves to fill!
