Comedy gold (Buckle)
Comedy gold (Buckle)
Sorry Rovers fans , once again i just can not let this one go by with out sharing with my fellow Gulls.
After our own poor performance at the weekend thought we could all do with some cheering up, you have to be a member of the Rovers alternative forum to read that forum which of course i am, came across this post, and fell of my chair as i nearly wet myself.
Enjoy..
"Excuse after excuse, patronising interviews and press calls. The one about lowering expectations was a classic. Exactly how much should we lower them Sir, lower than 17th in Division 4?
IMO Nick Higgs needs to be having a word on Monday morning (if he hasn't already) about how this guy is putting himself across because he's getting people's backs up bigtime.
And then there is the clueless, shocking, sh*te football and cr*p signings with seemingly no clue how to go about turning round this diabolical state of affairs. That + zero goodwill and a lot of angry supporters who can't stand the arrogant sod = losing your job."

He'll divide opinions there just like he did while he was here.

That is pure magic isn't it? Bucks ignoring everybody and STILL believing he is doing a good job despite evidence to the contrary. I always wondered how he would have coped at a club with the expectations of Rovers and having spent their (any) money to achieve success and it appears the early signs are not good at him doing that. With us he had zero expectation and spent nothing of any note but was allowed the time and afforded the patience of the yellow army, time and patience he won't be able to count upon in Bristol. Its still early days but (sorry Rovers fans) for the sake of Buckle, i hope your comeuppance is just around the corner and you end up back at an arse-end-of-nothing non league outfit. (Poor sods whoever it may be).
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.
OOPS sorry did not realise that, will have alook later see if i can remeber where i saw it :Oops:Southampton Gull wrote:He'll divide opinions there just like he did while he was here.

Most Gasheads were going to give Buckle time, as our club is rotten to the core and it needs some stability and with all the new players coming in over the summer, most of us were prepared to give Buckle some leeway to get this club going again.
There were some poor performances but there were also some decent ones, but since the 0-0 draw with Hereford, our performances have been nothing but shocking, I think the straw that finally broke the camels back with all of us was when Buckle came out in the press with "Rovers fans should lower their expectations" REALLY???...That comment infuriated all of us, and put the guy under pressure straight away and made most of the fan base turn on him. No disrespect but you may be able to say things like that when manager of Torquay, but you cannot say things like that when at Bristol Rovers, this is only the 2nd time in our entire history that we have been this low in the football pyramid, and beating the likes of Torquay, Aldershot and Cheltenham at home should be the least of our expectations.
I was one of the main people saying that Buckle should be given time and I was adamant I wasn't going to become one of the fickle ones and bay for Buckles head, but now the time has come for me and most other Gasheads to admit that they guy is out of his depth and is not the man to take Bristol Rovers further, our chairman Nick Higgs needs to take responsibility too for employing manager after mangager who all turn out to be abject failures, he has 1 last chance to deliver our much needed stadium, if that fails then our club is going to crumble rapidly. It is sad times to be a Gashead.
I have to hold my hands up to ForeverTUFC, he came on our alternative forum and told us about Buckle and a few of us shot him down claiming it was sour grapes etc(Myself included), but fair play fella, literally everything you said has been bang on the money(Apart from your review on Zebroski, the guy is absolutely horrendous and is easily one of the worst players I have had the misfortune of seeing in a Gas shirt) and I must apologise wholeheartedly for shooting you down.
I am sure most Gulls will find this hilarious and I am sure a lot of you will be gloating in the "I told you so" camp.
I dont think Buckle will resign and I dont think our chairman will sack him, so it looks like we are stuck with him for the forseeable future.
Saying that we are still only a few points of the play off places, weirder things have happened.

I hate to admit it but I tend to agree with most of what Britishgas is saying there. It's alarming how accurate your views were prior to the appointment. Most of the things predicted have happened. I.e falling out with players, playing people out of position, excuses, bad signings.... I could go on and on.
It's still early days and I tend to be loyal towards managers but it's certainly not looking good at the moment. Will he be sacked though? Absolutely no chance, whatever fans say or think. For Higgs to sack him and admit defeat in ANOTHER managerial appointment would effectively be the writing on the wall for himself.
P.S. I've been avoiding posting on here for a while as I hated to admit defeat and you were right all along![Glasses :)](./images/smilies/glasses.gif)

I don't know of any of our fans that have a dislike for Rovers and I'm sure all you Gasheads thought it was just sour grapes when we gave an insight into Buckle and his style of management but it's good to know that you can now see where we were coming from all along.
Personally speaking, I hope he does get the sack, he might learn a little humility if that happens...................but I doubt it. He's arrogant beyond belief and won't change anything until he's good and ready. I still expect you to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season but he WILL bottle the big games as he doesn't know how to change things during a game when they need changing.
Give Zebroski a chance though, he looks awkward but does have it in him to do well at this level. If/when you go up we'll gladly have him back![Wink ;-)](./images/smilies/wink.gif)

You say about beating "the likes of Torquay..." but in fairness, you got humped, and I mean properly bent over the desk and subjected to a right royal ungreased, backdoor session last season and that was only in the division above. Do you really think that there is such a difference in quality between the very bottom of L1 and the very top of L2 (we are, after all, the best team still remaining in L2, being the defeated playoff finalists) that you ought to rock up in this league and smash everybody?

We were shit last season yes, but we didn't finish rock bottom.ferrarilover wrote:You say about beating "the likes of Torquay..." but in fairness, you got humped, and I mean properly bent over the desk and subjected to a right royal ungreased, backdoor session last season and that was only in the division above. There is still a huge difference between the bottom of League One and the top of League 2, it is just our manager last season was a complete numpty.
Will Hoskins would score 30+ a season in League 2, there is still a gulf in quality, whether you wish to believe it or not.
I didn't say Rovers should rock up and smash everybody, but to come out undefeated at home against Torquay, Aldershot and Cheltenham should be normal expectation for Bristol Rovers.
Anyway on a lighter note, this might make you laugh http://x.com/#!/bucklepaul" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Now that is real comedy gold :~D

Hmmm, too much work and interweb based pornography means I'll have to research my reply at a later stage, but it's coming.

just a quick message to BritishGas and all the other gas visitors here - i can't speak for everyone, but i think you'll find very few (if any) on here pointing and laughing at Rovers. I don't know anyone with a problem with your club or fans. it's purely a Torquay Fans v Buckle thing.
Sure, some of your fans came on here thinking they were clever and funny, having digs at us during the summer (it was during the school holidays i guess), with every departure from our club to yours, but bar one or two departures (not all to rovers), you can now see why we would've happily helped them pack their bags and drive them to bristol - none more so than Buckle. we were disappointed to see Zeb leave, but clearly he isn't as popular with you as he was with us. he's played for a few clubs, and seemed more settled here than at any of his previous clubs, and i think it was a mistake for him to leave. i dare say his healthier bank balance comforts him at night though.
personally, i just want to see buckle fall on his arse, and see that little mincey wry smile wiped off his face, and it seems that is slowly happening. i'm not holding my breath though, knowing that little tossers luck, you'll go on a winning run and he'll be back telling everyone how wonderful and ambitious he is.
you'll all be welcome down at plainmoor in March, just get shot of that little tw@t by then !!!

To be honest B/G my post was made from a collection of TUFC fans opinions and thougths in general, i have never worried about being shot down so to speak , these are public forums and everyone's view point is there to be shot at, the post was only ever meant as a response not just to the gasheads on the net, also to the group of gasheads i ran into while away on my summer hols while sporting a tufc shirt, who had no trouble gloating to me over your prized capture of Paul Buckle, did give as good as i got howeverBritishGAS wrote:I have to hold my hands up to ForeverTUFC, he came on our alternative forum and told us about Buckle and a few of us shot him down claiming it was sour grapes etc(Myself included), but fair play fella, literally everything you said has been bang on the money(Apart from your review on Zebroski, the guy is absolutely horrendous and is easily one of the worst players I have had the misfortune of seeing in a Gas shirt) and I must apologise wholeheartedly for shooting you down.

You will find "i told you so" from me, it was never about BRFC or the gashead fans, it was about us .v. Buckle, most of us gulls fans want to see Buckle fall flat on his face not your club, the sooner he is out of Rovers the better , then we can all wish each other well

I can understand why Rovers fans would 'expect' to beat Torquay, Cheltenham etc but football is played on grass not a database of crowd size and what league you were in during the 1980's.
Whilst you might 'expect' to beat these sides and 'expect' to be in the top 3 you have pretty much got a completely new squad and management staff and when you have change of that magnitude it can take some time for it all to click into place. Again highlighting how well Buckle did in his first season here when he did exactly the same thing. Being given a budget and the opportunity to build your own squad straight away sounds easy but it doesn't always work that way. Takes time to actually form a team to play the way you want it to.
I do find the Carayol situation bizarre, you guys were raving about him yet he barely plays a minute for you when it matters. I'd pick him inf ront of Zebroski all day long. Was never a fan, a clumsy player with absolutely ZERO skill whose brute force, pace and awkwardness were his major plusses. I could never work out how he was so effective for us, like I said about Branston some players just work at certain clubs. Zebroski is one of those, there is no way his style will work at every club especially where the fanbase would be a) used to seeing hihger calibre players and b) less forgiving of his mistakes.
I still think Rovers will be there or thereabouts simply because they have enough good players for this level at their disposal, whether Buckle utilises them right is a thing for debate and whether he gets the time to do it is another. My flabber would be gasted though having spent so much time, effort and money on getting Buckle that they would bin him so early.
