M5 Closed in both dorections Sat 5th November

Post by Glostergull »

Hi Guys
This is a message for all fans who live north of the taunton area who would normally use the M5 tomorow to get to plainmoor.
There has been a mutliple pile up involving at least 25 vehicles with at least 4 artics also involved. 4 vehicles are reported to be on fire with many people trapped. There are multiple casualties.. Non yet reported fatal.
This incident has totaly closed the M5 North on which the accident has occured. But due to the very serious nature of the incident there is at least 15 Fire engines and many other emergency vehicles on both carriageways. The infrastructure is also seriously damaged. As a result the Southbound Carriageway is also closed and both carriageways will remain closed for the next 24 hours at least. It may even last into Sunday.
There is hardly any news on Tv or the traffic reports as yet but it most certainly will shortly hit all the main news.
This is likely to cause considerable inconvenience to anyone trying to get to Devon. as all roads will be very congested.

Oops. I forgot we were away to Crewe. Well this will cause us all the aggro and how the team will cope getting there i don't know as most will now be in bed and they won't know anything about it. He you manage to get up there as this is going to cause a whole load of trouble.
And I suppose I have now to join Trojan on the naughty step for forgetting we were away!! :'(

Gloster the crash has happend like 4 miles down the road from me. My quite town is now a war zone.

Just to say, the diversions will be from juction 25 or 26 through taunton, bridgewater and so on all the way up to weston. The traffic is really bad at the moment. Anyone planning to go via them points. Id give it an extra 2 hours on the jounrey.

R.I.P to the people who have died in the accident. Its crazy.

Update.
30 are now reported very seriously injured and life threatening. ten are reported with life changing injuries and now some have apparently passed away. God rest all those involved. 26 vehicles were involved some on fire.
It's reported as the most serious incident to have ever happened in the area

Have just seen it on tv and it looks like a plane crash more than a Motorway crash. Many fires and how anyone can survive that I don't know. There are reports of petrol tanks and many explosions as well as the fires the fires can be seen for miles. This could shut the M5 all weekend

Now confirmed that over 40 casualties taken to hospital. Police are not releasing details of whether there are fatalities untill next of kin are informed but it is now obvious that some have passed away in this dreadfull disaster.
This is one of the sadest days in living memory in our area. I find it difficult at this time to put words to my feelings but I pray God may be with those families involved at this awfull time. It surely makes one realise that football is but a momentary trivia compared with this.

Just watching it on the BBC now, worst I've ever seen myself. Looks like the fog was a big factor in the pile up. 24 hours until it opens again apparently but I wouldn't be surprised if was double that.

I expect it to be longer than that. To work out what happend, move the cars, clear up and re tarmack the damaged road caused by the fire. All will take time. I live down the road and will cause big issues in the area. But when people loose there lives, our travel plans just go out the window and thoughts go to the families.

Heard about this on the radio and read it on the BBC. It sounds absolutely horrific. BBC says two lorries jack-knifed so I'm guessing that bad fog meant poor visibility resulting in a pile-up. Absolutely tragic and my thoughts also go out to all those involved and their families.

In terms of travel. Five and a half hour delays and alternative routes congested. Considering the seriousness of the accident and the length of delays perhaps the match should be postponed.
