Hoping he can continue his current form and give them a really tough game on Saturday. With Billy's and Danny's off him they should be in for a long afternoon!

Saw this yesterday
, Rene is very quick for a big man, and now is fit and settled our club is seeing the very best of this player, other clubs had the chance to sign him including Rovers , all he needed was a someone to give a chance and a home, instead of training with the kids as he was at Peterbrough.

So they should be, he is a proven finisher and running onto a through ball, outmuscleing the defender and getting a shot off are trademarks of his. He holds the ball up well too and brings others into it. My only negative is i just wish he would work that bit harder in games to help out the midfield instead of being static when we haven't got the ball. OK he is a big man and fairly immobile generally but he needs to work on this to make him a better player and perhaps give him a crack at a higher level again if he wants it.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Interesting to note from looking at their forum that most of them have a soft spot for TUFC. I don't think they have ever seen us as a threat, & over the years we have had some excellent players passed on to us, Mike Green, John Uzzel, Phil Lloyd being just three that come to mind. No doubt if we all got our heads together we could come up with dozens of ex Plymouth guys that have gone on to be great favorites at TorquayRichinns wrote:... and rightly so!

They seem to be very pleased that they have got a 22 year old striker on loan from Blackpool, I hope he does well for them (but not on Saturday) & is looks like loads of managers have contacted Argyle, trying to off load their expensive mistakes. Argyle suffer from the same location problem as us, it is difficult to lure loan player down here. Another problem for them is players will not want to join a team that is in trouble at the foot of the table, not very good on the C.V. is it? , if you get relegated with a club. Getting loan players down to Devon must be much easier if the team are on the edge of the play offs everyone would like a chance to play at Wembley in a play off final.
I have always quite liked Argyle, if only they could have got onto the Prem. when they were at their best, I feel sure that we would have got a few of their youngsters on loan, It would have been nice to have had a few players here that went on to become household names, Lee sharpe comes to mind. I just hope that they can avoid the drop but it looks very unlikely at the moment. I don't think that the new owner ( the hotel bloke ) has mega bucks that he can through at the team. I would think that they will have to self finance any team improvements from gate money.

Trust an Argyle fan to spell Rene's name "Rennie"
Anyway of course they should be worried. They've got a goal difference of -21 and Howe has scored 7 already this season, I think and hope that it will be a long afternoon for our friends down the road

Our 2004 automatic promotion was helped by Craig Taylor, Martin Gritton and Brian McGlinchey. The 2 defenders were instrumental in our success IMHO.
We have had some good ‘cast-offs’ from the Pilgrims over the years.
Other ex-Pilgrims that spring to mind are Gibbs, Tynan, Adams, Hargreaves, McCall, Nelson, Hodges, Zebroski.
And Ashley Barnes on loan? Too good for us it would appear.
How things have changed for the Green Army in such a short space of time.....

Brian McGlinchey - one of my favourite players ever. Absolute legend, he was.

Hes been asked to sit up top and stay forward. When we were losing games he went back into midfield and helped out which then left us with noone forward when we had a chance to attack even on the counter. i agree maybe could run more to hurry the defenders to defend from the front, but wouldnt say to help the midfield. We play a 4-3-3 / 4-5-1. Its the job for the two guys with Rene to work back and forth to help the midfield three. Put rene back aswell and were playing a 4-6-0.austrianandygull wrote:So they should be, he is a proven finisher and running onto a through ball, outmuscleing the defender and getting a shot off are trademarks of his. I would rather he stood up top and was lazy and kept his energy for when hes called into action he can spring and be dangerous like he has been recently. Its a team game i agree but if everyone keeps to their own seperate roles we will achieve more. Its shown recently were under the cosh, ball gets knocked up to him, he holds it up, up top and gets the attack going from that.
Every team we play should be scared of Rene. even Sheff united. If he gets the ball with a yard of space anywhere around the box or in it, he will punish teams. Nice to see we have someone who can do that. He wont be amazing every week but yeah im happy with what hes doing.

Yep fair enough Brett, you're probably right. I was maybe too harsh on Rene, its just a shame to see a player with the talent he has not making the most of it. If he shifted some timber or turned it into pure muscle and worked on his stamina he would be immense and unplayable at this level.

Phil Lloyd came from Darlington. he followed Cyril Knowles. Never had anything to do with Plymouth Argyle.wodger of awabia wrote: Interesting to note from looking at their forum that most of them have a soft spot for TUFC. and btw - I cannot understand the kind of 'liking' some TUFC fans have for Plymouth. I find that I actually loathe them more than I do Exeter at the moment. I am really enjoying seeing Plymouth suffer and I hope they get relegated.
The last time we hosted Argyle in a league game, 8 of their 15 went to play for TUFC.
Lee Hodges, Steve Adams, Buster Phillips, Micky Evans, Ian Stonebridge, McGlinchey, Joe Broad and Kevin Wills.

Who invited John Motson to come up with some stats?!NickGull wrote:The last time we hosted Argyle in a league game, 8 of their 15 went to play for TUFC.

Tbf, great find. And Buster was a great player! Wonder what he's doing now... I hope he got some coaching job somewhere, but i doubt it, as i have heard nothing about him since his career ended. :/
Maybe one day, Carayol will find London...
