Torquay fans arse-licking Argyle

It sickens me. Why?
There is a thread on Pasoti where a Tqy fan is saying 'like most Torquay fans I have a soft spot for Argyle.'
Pardon me. I hate Plymouth. In fact I would say it is a very small minority of Tqy fans who have a soft spot for Plymouth. Maybe less.
On Exeweb there are Tqy fans playing the sycophantic shoe-shiner to Plymouth fans...I just do not get it.
I have always disliked Exeter but there is something even more odious about Plymouth and there fans. I am enjoying there struggles and not amongst what seem to be a section of Tqy fans who want to see Plymouth do well.

I don't actively hate them. I really don't care. I don't like the city *at all* but that's really about it.
In contrast, I quite the the city of Exeter but hate the team.
Strange, really.
I should add that I reserve my true loathing for teams that have done me/us wrong over the years I've supported TQ; Crawley and Colchester spring easiest to mind, but there are others.

As an 'outsider' but as somebody who has visited Exeter and Plymouth many, many times i've got to say that my perception of Plymouth is that is a dump with lots of alkis hanging around drinking, the town is a bit grim but Drakes Circus shopping centre is ok as is the hoe. I prefer Exeter as a city with the cathedral area and roman history. In terms of fan hatred i cannot begin to comprehend the relationships between the three Devon clubs having not been brought up in the area but if its anything like my rivalry when i was growing up, Hull - Grimsby - Scunthorpe then i fully understand. Growing up as a Hull fan i could NEVER EVER have a 'soft spot' for the codheads or scunny which is why i too find it difficult to understand why torquay fans have a soft spot for argyle. Its great to have rivals in the same division but ultimately i would want them to fail. If Plymouth go into the BSP its really sad and they've had a rough time but its funny. I bet they weren't shedding tears for us when we were conference bound and they were doing ok in the championship. I reckon they thought they wouldn't be playing us in for a thousand years. The boots now on the other foot and they are getting a taste of their own medicine perhaps?

Excellent post, I agree with you completely. I can't stand either of them and it really annoys me when people say things like that.

Exeter is my number one hated club.
The thing that i hate most about Argyle, however, is that so many of their fans lauded it over me when they were in the Championship, spending money they didn't have. So i kinda think the whole thing that went on there was just rewards, although i wouldn't have wanted to see them go out of business.

People only see what they want to see. Exeweb is an Exeter forum so it's natural to do what winds them up most, side with Argyle. If it was on Pasoti I can guarantee I would personally wind the Gargs up by siding with the Greeks, it's banter not a relationship ffs. I've got many friends who support Exeter and they know I wind up my Argyle mates just as much as I do them. That said, I don't dislike either Club, I'm proud of my roots and want to see all three Devon Clubs prosper.

I think Hector is talking about the post I put on PASOTI. But I agree with Dave, I enjoy the banter with friends who support Argyle or Exeter and love winding them up, but, after the Gulls, the results I always look for are Argyle's and City's. I too want to see all Devon clubs prosper and to defeat teams from outside the county. Maybe some of us just move in different circles from others, but most of the people I know feel the same way as me. Remember that we're football supporters, not tribal warriors. No hatred.

Who the hell has a soft spot for Argyle?! I certainly don't, and I'm quite looking forward to Jan 2nd at their place, and rubbing it in their faces if we win.
Mind you, I hate Exeter more. I'd quite happily see them get relegated!

I agree with that. I don't like Argyle at all, but I hate Exeter!

I find it difficult to hate anybody other than serial killers and lycra clad cyclists on pavements, and certainly wouldn't associate the word hatred with anything to do with Association Football.
Whilst I would not be tempted to go on PASOTI to offer support (they certainly didn't show much support for us when we were tipped into the Conference and they were riding high in the Championship) living in Ivybridge I have many friends who are Argyle supporters, and although I don't know any of the current Argyle team I have been friends with several former players and still am with those who still live in the area (even extending to giving 3 of them a lift back to Ivybridge after they had stuffed us 4-0 at Plainmoor and then going round the pubs with them in the evening!).
As SG says banter is fine between fans but hatred is far too strong to apply to a game of football. I am often in my Torquay United colours around Ivybridge on a Saturday evening and is the main source of my banter with the Argyle fans. I have consistently worn the colours through good times and bad. However when Argyle were moving up through the divisions to the Championship the town was awash with green and black, but in recent seasons the only green seen locally has been on the southern foothills of Dartmoor and in the Fruit & Veg shop. This season Argyle shirts have been rarer than a cheerful Yorkshireman until of course (yes you've guessed it) after their 4-1 defeat of Northampton Town when the Ivybridge pubs were again full of green and black clad supporters smelling strangely of mothballs.
Rivalry is good, banter is good, hatred is not o:)

I think you have to take it with a pinch of salt Stefano.
Saying I hate Exeter doesn't mean I want to go and kill their fans or anything like that, it just means i really really
really don't like them. :S

Don't worry Gullsflyinghigh I'm perfectly relaxed about it and if other people wish to increase their stress levels and blood pressure then that is up to them! My views are as stated but it is not a personal criticism of you or any other poster (they are just my views) - unless of course you are one of those lycra clad pavement cyclists!!

Living in Plymouth all of my life i can tell you the city is a shite hole and the fans of Argyle are arrogant twits. The majority i've come across anyway.
Like i said in a different thread about Argyle, we could finish above Argyle for the next 10 years straight and they will still consider them selves a bigger(true) better(not true) club than we are.
One of my Argyle mates is convincd argyle are the biggest club in League two, despite the fact Bradford bring in a bigger average attendence than Argyle do does not matter to him. Because Argyle are destined for the Premiership. 8/ I'm guessing living in Plymouth has made me a tad bitter and hence i'm probably the only Torquay fan who enjoys Argyle suffering more than Exeter. It is time Argyle had a few seasons in the BSP. then they really can claim to be the big boys of the league.
