Foreign teams

As most of you know i support the Gulls AND Red Bull Salzburg of Austria due to my Austrian heritage. I'd be interested to know who your 'other' foreign team is ( if you have one and why perhaps?). The only 'rules' are that the other teams cannot be another from the British Isles nor Real Madrid or Barcelona ( for obvious reasons unless you happen to be a spaniard supporting the gulls or something like that then that may be acceptable!! ). Cheers.

I wouldnt say I have a foreign team that I always look out for but I quite like BATE Borisov mainly because they play in Yellow and Blue aswell really.

Made friends with a German student whilst he was here for a year. We went and visited him over in a city called Dusseldorf, some of his friends supported fortuna Dusseldorf. The local team, ever since then I always look out what there upto. Would love to go watch a game of theres.

Two foreign teams for me, Werder Bremen and Bordeaux. Been to see home games for both of them in the past so often keep track of their progress.

I also have two. Lazio, as I went to see them as a kid in a Roma Derby, and Gazza ran rings around Roma that day.

And Marseille. Whilst living on the Cote D'Azur during my placement in 2004, Marseille got to the UEFA Cup final. I went to the home legs of the last 16, Quarter Finals and Semi Finals against Liverpool, Inter Milan and Newcastle respectively. A coach from St Raphael (over 2 hours each way), unlimited booze with a bunch of mental Frenchies and tickets to the game was 25 Euro!!!! I also got to see Emile Heskey score a goal, I'm fairly sure not many people can say that!!

I actually where I live is a very popular VACATION spot/ My wife is from San Diego, I lived in San Diego and San Fran before Traverse City. :~D

I was in San Jose in July - I liked it there a lot. I've thought about the west coast a few times but getting up at 7am on a saturday for the football would kill me.

I was reliably informed that people who live in San Francisco do not refer to the place as either "san fran" or "friso", although I can't speak to the veracity of this statement.

How far are you from Chicago Fire (not that you should have to follow them, because they're crap)

For me i go two foreign teams i look out for.

FAR Rabat, are a side from Morrocco. My Grandparents moved out to Rabat in early 2000s and had a decent job there until they moved back to the UK in 2007. I spent a lot of time going out visiting them in the summers and stuff. Being not to far from the ground and working for the company they did, they had a box which we used and so did all the other british familys within the company. A strange one i know but they were a good side and got a nice ground built for their bid for the world cup in 2010. It was between SA, Morocco and Algeria and obviously SA won the big but it left Morocco with some nice new grounds.

The other one is Genoa, I love Genova as a city, one of the most beautiful places and when i visit there i always make sure i watch a game or two. Saying that i do like LA Galaxy because of the one and only David Beckham but thats not really a real reason so i wont count it.

Locals in San Francisco refer to it as "The City". It's an amazing place but very fast living. San Diego is nice and very laid back but it never gets cold. I am about 5 hours from the fire.

5 hours is practically local!

I'm about 3hrs from the Revs, and 90 minutes (in good traffic) from NYRB - I go to both to report on matches...also next year planning a weekend in Montréal for their home opener - that's about 6 hrs drive from me.

People complain that away support sucks but it really is no surprise. Philadelphia took about 800 to NYRB last season, which I thought was pretty decent.

I tend to look out for a small French team in Northern Brittany called Gwencamp. (Gangong it s pronounced) got to the French Prem a few seasons back. Funny place really. Town of the Size of Thornbury in Gloucestershire. Or Totnes. ie about ten thousand or maybe less but games regularly attracted 18 to 20k at thier neat stadium.
Found them while on Hols there in 2004 and they had a shop in the town center. so we explored it and bought the team scarf.

Gloster, I think the team you are talking about is Guingamp. I went to see them many many moons ago, and had there replica shirt. At the time they had a massive "FROMAGE" as there sponsor, which made me laugh. Can't imagine any English teams having "CHEESE" across the front of their shirt! Great little place is Guingamp!!

Apparently, I support a foreign team. It's in the land of that Jeff Rowe and his mate Denzil. And there's me thinking Argyle is THIS side of the Tamar.
