Poor from the Pop ...

Post by CP Gull »

Disappointed to hear the poor reaction from a very audible "minority" on the Popside who clearly cheered or should I say jeered when Ian Morris was subbed today. He (Morris) was clearly upset at the cheering when he went off as you could see by his reaction when he left the pitch to return to the bench.

Whilst I can understand the frustration at his performance, which wasn't great today and neither was that of Danny Stevens, but let's face it he has been an integral part of our success this season. Personally I think he deserves our full support, indeed given our position in the League at this stage of the season I think EVERYONE deserves our suppport .... they certainly don 't deserve our jeers !!!

Totally agree CP. I didn't hear any jeering but i heard a few people around me saying get him off and also having a go at Joey too. What the players have given us thus far in terms of enjoyment and excitement from the season is absolutely amazing and we can forgive a few bad games. If he is having a bad game then Ling will bring him off like today with half an hour left. The pressure is really on and we all are desperate for success but its the players who have got us where we are now and that includes Morris.

In addition, the Danny Stevens i saw today was the Danny Stevens of old. The Stevens of 4 years of doing the same things badly. STOP JOCKEYING DANNY AND TACKLE FOR CHRISTS SAKE!!!!!!

P.S: I did not jeer him though :-D
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

I diddnt like hearing that and he did look upset, I dont get it because its certainly not going to help his game because as we know footballs a confidents game. Hes a TUFC player so he should have our support!

I saw that Lee Mansell posted about this on twitter, I didn't actually hear any jeering and if there was that's really not good, players have good days and bad days Christ we all get that in our own jobs! We should be backing every one of our players as they have all put there al into this season the table proves that!

I did wonder who it was Martin Ling was talking about - I assumed it was Stevens that people must have been sarcastic about as I thought Morris had a decent game. He has been playing very well lately, so I hope he can ignore the idiots who appear to have been having a go at him.

I didn't hear the cheers/jeers, but I hope that Ian Morris doesn't lose heart over the reaction of people who I can only describe as morons. I think he has contributed a lot this season, and we should be grateful to him.

Yeah.....I heard the "reaction" from the fam stand - not surprised sadly, we have far more than a small minority of complete retards the pop side is full of 'em......some of the comments you hear are just embarrassingly ignorant - i'm sure other clubs are the same.

I've had to sit in the family stand this season as i sit with my old dad (how does anyone sit in there by choice btw? - so cramped and a shit view) - a guy who sits right behind me, in his 60's spends EVERY game lambasting every single thing Danny Stevens does from the 1st minute to the last - I finally cracked today......paying £18 or whatever shouldn't give people the right to spout inane drivel or to sarcastically cheer players when they're subbed - the same players that have got us to 2nd in the league.

Not a lot went right for Morris today.......that's just the way it goes sometimes, he's obviously a decent player though and despite a poor game today he doesn't hide or shirk a challenge and always works hard for the team and has certainly played his part this season.
....aka jmgull.

Just hope he can prove the doubters wrong if he's in the starting 11 this Friday then!! Certainly no need for it though and if he was as pap as what everyone is saying, he'll already know it in himself without the need for some 'fans' to Mae it known!!

to be fair; poor from Morris

Was dire today, along with stevens. Game changed massively in our favour when they were both replaced.

The thing with Morris is, he has the potential to do something great in a game
Whereas Stevens who goes everywhere bar the winger position he is put in, will be poor for the whole game

I applauded them both off to welcome the change

Maybe like stevens who has had a couple of popside run=ins will get a goal or 2 too prove the doubters wrong?

I wondered what ML was on about in the post match. I wasn't at the game so I obviously didn't hear it but it does get on your wick esp. that old codger on the pop, Bartlett I think his name is how he doesn't get chucked out I'll never know. Threatening abusive, something needs to be done as it's putting people off going. I'm all for "you've paid your money" ect but when it causes offence esp. to the team moral then it needs to be sorted.

Glad ML has raised the issue.

Some of the comments from people in the pop side yesterday really irritated me, particularly those aimed at Stevens and Morris. I even heard one bloke having a go at Olejnik for the goal and criticising his inability to come for crosses! Bobby has been fantastic this season, my choice for player of the year given the amounts of times he has saved us in games, and to hear someone criticising him really got to me. We're second in the league, a position most of us never thought we would be in, and these guys are playing magnificently. Why pay £17 to come and have a go. Support your team!!

This goes especially for Danny and Ian. Danny had a very poor game yesterday, but the criticism and abuse he constantly gets is unreal. Everytime he makes a mistake so many fans get on his back. It's a wonder he has any confidence left. If he went out and scored ten goals in a game i reckon there would still be some fans criticising his performance.

I really felt for Morris yesterday too. I am personally not the biggest fan of his, I think he contributes the least of the current first choice XI, but he's a TUFC player, he tries his hardest, and he still gets my support. thought he and Danny needed to come off yesterday, but to cheer them being taken off is an outrage.

These guys have taken us to within touching distance of automatic promotion and deserve to be applauded for that. They need our support and encouragement in the final few games. Everyone needs to get behind the team and certain people need to stop with all the negativity.

Perhaps the club needs to send out a strong message that barracking and intimidation of Gulls players will not be tolerated in the home sections at Plainmoor? The job of home fans is to support YOUR team and, where appropriate, give the opposition players a hard time. I hope that all proper Gulls fans will feel able to challenge this appalling behaviour when they see it, but it would be better and safer if the stewards were given the authority to remove these prats.

Wasn't there yesterday, but I felt Morris got far too much stick against Rovers too, where he was up there as my MOTM. I probably should have voted on the MOTM thread for him after that match, but I don't post often. I think he does a decent job, and would be a stand out player in many of the dross sides we've seen over the years.
