If Pompey go out of business.......

If Pompey do go out of business in June / July when the deadline comes up (again) obviously it will mean only 2 teams will be going down from the Championship. Would that mean Barnsley would go down as the 3rd club, or because the season has already finished the following:

League 1 - Wycombe stay up in League 1 as the team in the drop zone with the most points?

or

League 2 - 5 teams are promoted from League 2, in which case who becomes the 5th team being the play off final would have happened?

Another scenario is League 1 would have 1 less club next season

I'd imagine the highest placed team who got relegated in League One would get a reprieve.

These things are normaly sorted out by extra promotion's rather than relegation's, to be honest I have no idea what the F/L would do.

I should imagine however, the team finishing 2nd from bottom in league 2 would retain their league status, and a 5th promoted from league 2.

Assuming the FL and the Conference are on the same page, the last relegated side gets a reprieve. I think it was someone like Altrincham who had managed to finish in the bottom 4 two years in a row, yet survive.

Correct, pretty sure Forest Green also have twice survived, which actually make giving a reprieve to Wycombe an easy solution.

Not sure thats going to be the case, if Portsmouth were still in the premiership I could see someone buying them, however they will be league 1 and looking at Pompeys likely income against the level of debt, think an investor would probably see more benefit in putting his money into subprime mortgage lending.

Think FC Portsmouth is now a real possiblity.

They'll merge with Havant & Waterlooville and become AFC Portaloo if you don't mind. ;-)

Found this on the Hereford forum.

http://unofficialbulls.proboards.com/in ... read=32555" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

12.2 Cessation of membership. If a Club (or Clubs) ceases to be a member of The League for any reason (including, without limitation, pursuant to Article 4 of the Articles of Association or by way of relegation or expulsion for disciplinary reasons):

12.2.1 during any Normal Playing Season, its playing record shall be expunged and the number of relegation places from the relevant Division for that Season shall be reduced by the number of Clubs ceasing to be members;

12.2.2 during the period between the end of the Normal Playing Season and the conclusion of the last Play-Off Match for that Season, its playing record shall not be expunged
but the number of relegation places from the relevant Division for that Season shall be reduced by the number of Clubs ceasing to be members; or

12.2.3 during the period between the conclusion of the last Play-Off Match and the start of the following Season, its playing record shall not be expunged but the number of relegation places from the Division in which a Club would have played but for its cessation of membership, shall be reduced by the number of Clubs ceasing to be members and, during that Season, the relevant Division shall operate with a reduced number of Clubs.

It appears that if we were to benefit from these rules then the club concerned would have to be a current member of Division 2 finishing above Hereford United.

I would not wish for such a situation to occur.

Their is nothing to suggest Portsmouth will certainly go bust, however reading this, if they do fold before the play-off final, it would be Coventry who remain in the Championship, after the play-off final it would be Wycombe who would remain in legaue 1.

if, as the above states, that pompeys playing record is expunged then it could have huge implications on the final league table, southampton or reading may well have taken a crucial number of points off them, therefore teams that have been promoted or relegated could be kept down or up

expect theres a table without pompeys results somewhere?

Another scenario, If Portsmouth go bust after the play offs, and Exeter win their final game. Wycombe lose and Chesterfield draw or lose. Then.... Well I hate to say it but sh*tty stay in League 1.
Makes some games even more important this Saturday.
Never thought id say it but for Saturday only im a fan of Sheff Utd
