Apparently Crewe Alexandra's Powell signed for Manchester United for £4 million, I thought he would leave Gresty Road but I didn't think it would be to Old Trafford. Interesting move.

so another team with a massive amount of money to spend next season, why cant we ever sell anyone for that sort of price, or get a money spinning cup tie, or some really rich business man!!

Because that's no fun. It takes the challenge away. Like entering an F1 can in touring car race. No challenge, no point
Matt.

Not quite, Bix. Sure some of that may go to the playing squad, but their academy costs £500,000 a year to run, they made losses of £1,000,000 in the last two years, so you'd imagine that half of the fee will wipe those debts off. The other half will fund the academy for the next couple of years.
Crewe need to sell a player for £1,000,000 every two years to keep their academy going.

£4million! Well done to Crewe for their youth system and clearly showing a great set-up bares fruit. Has to be said though that they are going to get £4m yet we seem to be getting 1 twentieth of that for O'Kane. Something clearly wrong there!

£4m for a player completely unproven at any level above league 2? Don't make me laugh.
Irrespective of any 'potential' he has, Man Utd aren't stupid!

Is this the same Man Utd we're talking about who spent £7.5m on a Portuguese homeless guy who they didn't even send a scout to go and see and only played in the 3rd tier of Portuguese football and some friendlies for a top tier one?

Are there really people on earth who still question decisions made by SAF? He has, occasionally dropped a bollock, Eric Djemba-Djemba or Massimo Taibi, but come on...
Matt.

Fergie thrives when people doubt him. United will bounce back, they always do.

Not forgetting Jordi Cruff, Diego Forlan, oh and veron, and the list goes on, and on, Buckle modeled himself on fergie, sign loads and loads of players, you will get 11 to make a team in the end..

Fergie has spent millions on unknown players before, he bought Lee Sharpe from us in 1988 for £200,000 after only 16 games.

I thought he showed that he has outstanding ability in the recent game at Plainmoor. I'm glad he is going to a top club, he is a great prospect and has an exciting future ahead of him.

Jordi Cruff was ok for United, played plenty in that 98/99 team. Forlan and Veron were both quality players who can't cope with the English game. Anyway, this is not the point of the thread.
Matt.

Forlan still is quality.
