Glasgow Rangers into Liquidation

Post by Glostergull »

Following on from the collapse of Glasgow Rangers FC. Is there now a warning to other clubs in the English. Welsh and Scottish Leagues that Living outside their means is now going to be more and more impossible.
HMRC has been issued with an edict to turn the screws on Football clubs across the land to make sure they pay their fair share of tax. Dodging the issue is no longer an option and trying IVA's is now going to be more difficult especialy if more then 25% of debts are to HMRC.
Many clubs who have reported losses will have unannounced inspections and audits. Those trying out dodgy practise will be found out and no sympathy allowed.
Big companies and corporations have for too long skipped their responcibitly to the British taxpayer by manouvering to escape whatever tax they can in many cases (ie Vodphone) trying to avoid tax in the UK at all. With many clubs having made losses for years. I can see a day when many are brought down to earth with a huge bump.
It will be interesting to see what effect Rangers relegation will have on Scottish Football. Last time Rangers where in real trouble, crowds in the rest of the SPL went up for a while, as other clubs saw they had a decent chance of winning something.
Will this happen again.
Can it also benifit our leagues. or the Welsh league where I am of the opinion there are clubs living outside of their means on gates on 3 men and a dog.
TV deals will get harder to justify and money will no dobt contract in the longer term. Present SKY/BT deal I think is a bit of an aberation. I do wonder if it will go the way of Setanta or ITV digital.
We wait and see.
Always Look on the bright side of life
