Joe Oastler

Been thinking this for quite a while now but i reckon our Joey will be the next 'big' player exit from Plainmoor. His performances last season and so far this have massively impressed me and i'm actually a massive fan. He is such an ungainly individual with pretty much zero pace but he he always in the right place at the right time and the workrate he shows EVERY game is absolutely phenomenal. He is always a player you notice if we are playing crap because he has to deal with it all and he never gives in. He is turning into a true Plainmoor legend in my eyes and i'm sure there are many managers who have their eye on him. When does his contract expire does anyone know?

Anyway, just thought i'd post this praise as i'm usually renowned for being a Yorkshire doom-monger but credit where it's due, Joe certainly deserves a big mention for the development he has shown and he is just as vital to the team as Damon and Rene in my opinion.

Don't underestimate Joe's pace. Watch the way he goes past people, he is deceptively quick, at least in a burst. I have rated him as miles beyond us for over a season now. He might well be the best tackler this side of the L1 promotion contenders, he is a real asset as an extra body going forward, he's reasonable in the air and is generally a very solid player.

Matt.

Well, Lingy signed him up for 2 years when was appointed in Summer 2011. I haven't heard of any extension in the meantime, so that means that we should be looking to tie him to a longer deal before Christmas, else other clubs can look to agree terms during January (for the following Summer).

A good, solid member of the team, with potential to get even better.

Sadly Andy, whilst I agree thar Joe could well be a disappointing departure, and whilst Im not sure of contract situations either, surely Rene has to be the biggest problem. If we dont go up, which is not looking hugely likely, surely he'll be off in the summer?!

You're probably right there Cornish. The thing about Rene is that if he had regular service he would score millions, the way we play doesn't suit him and he often has to rely on that 'one chance one goal' scenario which is quite sad. We are not playing to our strengths and Rene is suffering and WILL be off.

..Or, alternatively, you could say Rene thrives in the current set up. I personally think he enjoys the role upfront by himself. It largely means he gets to do what he wants as theres no one to get in his way. The downside is that we don't have the players to get up and support him as often as last year, mainly due to EoK.

I believe Rene is loving his football at the moment, he seems to like the place, like the club so hopefully when it comes to discussing a new deal, he'll be quite happy to agree to one.

Christ are you on drugs - the way he performed against Aldershot he will on route to Weymouth before long

That's another way of looking at it Nick but not one which i concur i'm afraid. We all know Rene has the talent but circumstances meant he ended up at Plainmoor but regardless of happy he is to have settled at one club and done well on a regular basis, he must surely feel that now he has the confidence and love for the game back he can now try his luck at a higher level once again. Meaning he will be yearning for another crack at a bigger club very soon.

I didn't say Joe would move to a higher league only that Rene would. Joe could move to one of the bigger clubs in our league who pay more but that said i'm sure there are a number of league 1 clubs who Joe would do a job for.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. Rene has been around a bit, he's been swayed by money (most likely) when he went to Peterborough. It didn't work, he's spent years out on loan to all sorts of clubs, where he hasn't done anything.

I'd be surprised if a 'big' club came calling, just yet anyway. Get him onto a new deal then see where we are in May.

To be fair I think our club is blessed with a number of young talented players with stacks of potential, potential is no guarantee. Joe Oastler is a player full of potential; however he has not had the best start to this season making a number of mistakes that have lead to the ball ending up in our net, as Brucie has alluded his performance against Aldershot was poor, apparently by his own admission something Joe is aware of, that said he is a young player and as long as he keeps developing a move up the football league ladder will come.

This thread appears to have gone off course some what, for what its worth I tend to agree with Nick on Rene Howe, he joined Peterborough in 2007 , since then had loan spells at Rochdale, Morecambe, Lincoln, Gillingham, Rusden/Diamonds and Bristol Rovers never able to settle at any of these clubs, if what I hear is correct he is very happy here and enjoying his football, whilst you can never say never in football can’t see any of the big clubs coming in for him, and think he will be with us for while yet.

When I first saw Oastler I liked him as a player, no frills, tidy in possession, made tackles just like Lathrope really. Then he gets moved to right back and in every game I saw last season I thought he was our worst player mainly down to him just looking like a midfielder playing full back. I didn't see 46 games last season so it's hard to make a complete judgement of him and I'll reserve judgement till I get to see him a few times this season at least, but I find this thread a bit baffling.

Well considering i've seen him 5 times already this season away and he has been just about joint man of the match for every game in my view and many other fans views therefore i don't see the thread as baffling.
