Managerial graveyard

Post by Scott Brehaut »

So, Di Matteo gets the push after six months in charge of managing Chelsea - who on earth in their right mind would want to join a club as manager when the owner is so trigger happy with his "you're fired" button.

I think this is the sixth manager he has got rid of since taking over as owner and, whilst it is his right to do what he wants, he is surely making a mockery of the club.

Martin Ling is 10/1 for the job and Martin Rice 100/1 !

One ex Gull who we all know will be applying is ex manager Paul Buckle who apparently considers himself favourite for the position.

In his application he apparently states that Petr Cech is the best left back Chelsea have ever had and John Terry the best Right Winger!

WHHAAAAAAAAAAA?

What is wrong with Abramovich? The guy is an absolute cretin. Di Matteo is the best manager they've had since Mourinho and finally brought genuine success to the club when he was only there for half a season, and he's repaid with this after all of two poor results.

This is why Chelsea will NEVER be successful again.
Luke.

The fact of the matter is, Di Matteo has had a nightmare run of four games.
Personally I think that the Russian billionaire never wanted Roberto in the first place (look at how long it took him to offer a contract), but felt compelled to take him on after his success in the short space of time.

Chelsea will always lurch from one manager to another until they have either sustained success, or the owner sells up.

Nail on head. He never expected Di Matteo to win the CL but even Roman would have looked bad if he didn't offer him the gig full time after that. Also right on the crap run. THey're probably going out of the CL in the group stages, and they're some way behind the pace setters in the league. Part of me thinks that dropping Torres from the the lineup in the Juve game last week just pissed Abramovic off more, but fair play to Di Matteo - he was always his own man. I think he'll make a pretty good manager eventually.

As for "who wants that job?" - bloody everybody wants it. You can't lose. You get paid a fortune to spend another guys money on players, and if it goes tits up (which it probably will) everybody blames the owner and you get a very nice pay off. Easiest job in the world.

Like Happy says, where is the incentive do to well at Chelsea? Any manager that comes in knows he will get zero time to be a success and even if he IS a success he will still get the boot. The one thing is for sure, take the Chelsea job and get a massive pay off either way. It's a no brainer.

As for managers getting the sack, Mark Hughes was a cert. What bugs me is what had he ever done in management to warrant all these top flight jobs? He's been found out and now will manage a Championship club at best.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Mark Hughes **** himself over when he left Fulham to go to a "bigger" club and ended up in the wilderness for years....

Same here Super, brings them out of the league and set fair to be in the play offs at least. Bizarre decision.

Infuriatingly what Abramovich is doing is actually working! They have been far more successful over the last 10 years than Arsenal have with Wenger.

As for who would want the job? Who wouldn't want the job? Rafa Benitez has the easiest job in football. He's only in the job until next summer. All he has to do is keep doing everything that Di Matteo was doing, same training, same tactics. Finish third behind the Mancs and everyone is happy!
