Rochdale sack John Coleman..

Post by Gullscorer »

After twelve months in charge at Rochdale, John Coleman has been sacked as manager there. He took over when Rochdale was near the League One relegation places, but he was unable to save them from the drop. Rochdale are currently three places above Torquay in the League Two table, though the Gulls have games in hand.

I cannot understand why clubs make decisions like this. They must know that, in the absence of billionaire backers, there are no quick fixes in football.

I have much sympathy for the long-suffering supporters of teams like Rochdale, Bristol Rovers, and indeed Southampton.
The clubs run by one-man bands appear to come off worst, in the sense that their owners can be egotistical, autocratic, fickle and eccentric, even assumimg that they know anything about football, or care for the game at all.

I give thanks that there are still some clubs around - such as Torquay United - with sensible owners backing an excellent manager in the knowledge that a stable set-up with gradual steady progress for the team, the club, and its finances, is the best way forward.
