footballers going broke

Post by chunkygull »

i heard on the radio a shocking statistic that 3 out of 5 premier league footballers go broke within 5 years of retiring.
with a search on the internet i found loads of information and stats with regards to this.

i didnt know whether to be shocked or p!ss myself laughing.

by the sound of it, it is a mixture of bad advice from agents (theres a shocker 8/) and financial advisors.

another main reason is apparently 1 in 3 players get divorced within 12 months of retiring.(theres a shocker 8/ )

here is an article -

in america the problems are even worse and their pro sportsmen in basketball, gridiron and baseball are generally on a lot more money than our footballers.

reminds me what happened to mike tyson. at his peak he had a net worth of $300 million +, and ended up bankrupt.(divorce/bad advice/bad company) he had to fight when he had lost his desire and was past his best, he got involved with wwe and had to make cameo appearances in films like the hangover.
You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.

oh please remind me to donate a large wedge to their deserving charity. Not! Big money comes their way and they can't handle it, but their greed rewards them big time.
