Counties

Post by AustrianAndyGull »

What are your favourite counties in England? I believe England is such a special place in terms of each county having their own identity, dialect, customs, history and topography and each one has it's quirky side. My favourite counties are Devon and Cornwall, the ruggedness and feeling that you are always on holiday even when i worked in St Columb at the animal shelter i felt like i was on holiday at work! I love the Celtic heritage of the two counties and the culture and customs of them.

One of my other favourite counties is Norfolk for it's slow pace of life and the coastal towns and villages and of course the broads. Nobody can dispute the fact that the best county is Gods own, Yorkshire. North Yorkshire to be precise. The seaside resorts of Scarborough, Bridlington, Whitby and the inland moors, the little market towns and villages and people who speak properly. East Yorkshire is ok too apart from Hull which is a tip but south and west yorkshire are horrendous pooholes.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

It's because i was born and bred in South Yorkshire that i know how much of a sh*thole it really is.

Never actually been to Staithes if truth be told but i've heard it's nice. Robin Hoods Bay is probably nicer though if you've ever been. If not i recommend it. Cumbria is good too but not keen on Northumberland.

You can't beat listening to a bit of Morbid Angel whilst drinking in the North Sea air and a pint of Theakstons.

I don't dress like them though, i find it a bit overpowering.
