Mattpuma gave me the idea from a comment on my matchday thread to come up with this. Which pubs / inns do you go to regularly to eat out and why? Which do you think are the best? It might be of help to me when i'm down there on holidays too so don't go putting any rough-holes down in a futile attempt to deceive me!

I was saying that i liked the Peter Tavy Inn near Tavistock as it sits on the edge of Dartmoor, is fairly quiet even when busy and is cosy and has some great local food and ales.

Up here in Derbyshire i'd recommend the Wheatsheaf in Baslow yards from the entrance to Chatsworth House. Cosy, warm and great food.

great food - recommend the mixed grill if you are starving! and more real ales! cheers!

Anyone that's going Morecambe in a few weeks, avoid the Toby Carvery thingy on the Shrimp roundabout near the ground. It's cheap i grant you but it was awful. Tasted off.

Plus the glasses were that filthy i asked for another which came back filthy so i demanded a straw!!

The Ostrich near Swaffham in Norfolk. The only redeeming feature for about 150 miles in any direction. Miles out of your reach (geographically and financially) Andy, but if you win the lottery and find yourself in the area, check it out.

As it happens Matt i shall be passing that very neck of the woods as i'm going on holiday to Norfolk in a few weeks time so i might give it a look. :~D

North Peak here in Traverse. Best pub food I have ever had.

Homemade fish and chips, curry sauce and a cracking pint of Guinness ( shift a lot so always fresh) . .. And a game of cribbage

I recommend the Reedham Ferry Inn in Reedham, Norfolk on the broads near Yarmouth. Lovely setting by the river and superb food at reasonable prices. If you're ever in the area then it's worth a visit for the Lowestoft Cod ( responsibly sourced i may add - don't normally buy Cod as i want to allow stocks to recover but i'm glad i did on thursday evening, a beautiful piece of fish ).

Don't go in the Rockingham Arms in Wentworth near Rotherham. Beautiful rustic pub but the food is appalling.

You should. I have had a few americans ask me how long the drive is america to the UK.

If you happen to be in Scarborough or on the way from there to Whitby then I can thoroughly recommend the Three Jolly Sailors in Burniston on the main drag. Lovely country pub with stone walls and a great ambience and great food. They also do Theakstons Black Bull Ale on draught!
