Are folks still playing dominoes, cribbage, table skittles at the boozer or has this all died out and replaced by Telly?

Dominoes are at our local pub in South Devon and I've had the odd game. Euchre (sp?) is very popular down there as well - even if I don't have a clue how to play it!

Damn, foiled again, read the OP, scrolled down here to do an Angry Birds joke and found Andy, of all people, had beaten me to it.

Credit to WG for getting the grotesquely American collective 'folks' within the same sentence as the delightfully colloquial 'boozer'.

Still occassionally go down to the local (The Mallard, Andy)and play cribbage with Mrs Beard over a pint or two. Our kids mates saw us and were fascinated, they'd never seen cards in the flesh before let alone a crib board!
Tried to teach them how to play so we could take some money off them but they can't concentrate for more than 30 seconds without checking their mobilke phones so we never got to relieve them of their hard earned.

Ahhh the good old Mallard Emet, scene of my first ever pint in a pub as a 16 year old and my local for a while with the dart board in the tap room. Great memories. No idea what it's like now though, i know it's been done out ( as has the Sun ). Not been in a pub in Donny for about 5 years!

Oh yes, Mr Wisconsin, table skittles, darts and crib are all very much a part of the cutting edge Bridport social scene. Not all at the same time, obviously. And it's not all oldies (Emet!!!) that play it, quite a young element involved. Oh, and other skittles too, that you play in one of those alleys that aren't suited to kitten heels.

Often play Darts in the The Well Tavern in Exeter (Near SJP) have also played Chess on occasion against one of the old boys.

I especially like the drink until l fall over game. I win every time!

I know what you mean Matt. If i go to the pub it's to talk to my friends, if i don't have any friends then i don't go to the pub. If i did i'd read a paper and not play brain numbing sh*t on my mobile. If you aks yourself the question: If it wasn't needed for your work or using it for emergencies , could you live without your mobile phone?

If it's no then you have a few problems that need addressing.

Well no, but that's because my phone isn't a phone, it's a mobile computer, so it has a calendar and notes and email and what not on it. It's like a File-o-Fax, but for the 21st Century. What I could do is use it considerably less than I do, but the ability to access Google or keep in touch or, frivolously, Tweet an inane comment is now so much a part of my life that I'd probably struggle to operate at the level I do without it.

That said, there are times when it simply isn't necessary to continue to use a phone constantly and while in company is one of them.
