Southend in Financial Trouble Yet Again

Football is becoming more like the market in Eastenders every day, with the Football Authorities about as effective as the Market Inspector (shortarsed little idiot bloke) in Easties.

They must have been making the money, otherwise they would not be liable for the tax.

Rotten financial management (or worse) yet again. The directors and shareholders should be made to pay, and their creditors (particularly their staff and the small business people they dealt with) should be safeguarded, and the whole disgraceful enterprise should be dissolved and wound up.

Football League team gets "final reminder" from HMRC.

Football supporter gets final reminders from gas/electricity/phone/water rates/council tax etc and pays by credit card.

Non story.

Yawn.

So your "final reminders" usually end up with a date for a court hearing then? Mine don't, I sometimes get HMRC reminders (written in a threatening style, but way in advance of a date for a court hearing). Not a "non story", but symptomatic of the sick state of football in our country.

:na:

And it seems that this team Southend, who can't pay their taxes on time, are trying to sign Rene Howe!

This always happens to Southend because their Chairman has a policy of paying HMRC last, after all other creditors. So now when tax is overdue, they go straight to the winding up order. He then pays it, and the same thing happens next quarter.

I didm't realise that he did this all the time, thanks for the info. However, this doesn't sound like a good idea for a long term policy. HMRC has a vindictive streak, and this could and should bite him on the bum when the time comes, as it surely will, that he can't afford to pay them before the court hearing.
