Bury 8th Feb- Boots and Laces and Food

Post by penrynlad »

Hi guys

Looking for some help. Coming up to Plainmoor for the Bury game for the first time with a few mates. Out for a weekend in your fair city and thought we would take In the match.

Couple of things if anyone could answer them for me? Is anyone allowed in the boots and laces pub at the ground? Have read there is a pub at the ground but wasn't sure who could go in (members etc). We have got tickets in the Thatchers stand so don't know if this counts? Are they open before/after the game if wanted a few beers before heading into town?

Also does anyone know if they serve food in there?

Thanks in advance for any replies. Thought I would see if could get an honest fans view on things!!

Cheers Tim

Hi Tim,

Boots & Laces welcomes anyone and it is a minute away from the Thatchers Pop-Side terrace. It will show the early ko off on a big screen and does traditional match-day grub such as pies, chips and hotdogs etc.

Alternatively, if you wanted something a bit different, you might be able to book a table in our no.10's restaurant where you could have a match-day carvery- still leaving you time for a pint or 3.

Hope you guys have a great day out and hope the good guys win. Hope it persuades you to come back for more.

All the best.

Hi Tim,

I'd recommend Boots and Laces for a pre-match pint however as I have recently discovered to my detriment the food in there is pretty poor. There are plenty of decent places to eat and other pubs about. Hanburys which is a chip shop about a 10 minute walk from the ground is award winning and top drawer, it's also by the Babbacombe Downs which offer some great views. I hope you have a great weekend when you visit.

Hi Tim
A question. Are you coming to the game as Bury supporters or just coming to the game? It's just that the Thatchers stand is, in fact, the Pop side which is home terracing?

Hi

Sorry to confuse you. The thatchers stand is the pop side terrace that we will be standing in. Thought that's what is was called haha. We are coming as Torquay supporters. We are mostly from cornwall but are there to have a few beers and support the local team against those northerners haha. Thanks for the advice. Think we will have a couple of beers before the game then and find some grub elsewhere after the game

It's nice to have some supporters coming from Cornwall who haven't defected to the dark (green) side! Hopefully under the new management you'll see some better football which will make you want to come back again.

Ha Ha, No problem Tim Penrynlad. As Taunton said, nice to add a few extra bodies onto the Popside, and from Cornwall as well. Hope you enjoy your weekend in the Bay and, of course, you are able to witness a fine TUFC win, which will encourage you to visit us again, maybe on a regular basis. Have fun. :scarf: :)

Care to elaborate about the Boots and Laces food? What d'you mean by 'pretty poor'?

Personally, I don't think Hanbury's is that special; it's only a fish and chip café after all, and they don't cook 'em the way I like 'em; and they're somewhat overpriced in my opinion.

(Not that I eat out that much).. :-/
