A Sad day looking from the outside

Post by friendlygas »

Yesterday for me was a sad day as the League lost one of its "friendly" clubs who do things the right way and don't spend out of its means. A place where you can always go and have a bit of banter with true football fans with no worry of any trouble that still plagues at lot of grounds. I know exactly how you lot are feeling, I sat through 90 minutes of hell yesterday and will do again next Saturday ,the stomach feeling sick at the thought of MY club going out of the football league. I was still hoping that Northampton would lose at Dagenham (personally I feel that Dagenham should hold their heads in shame at their performance yesterday) and that you would beat Mansfield and still have something other than pride to play for next Saturday. It was not to be.
Hopefully the form you have shown in the last few weeks will give you hope for next season because you have proved in that period that you WERE good enough to stay up this season and therefore should be good enough with a couple of additions to come straight back up. The fact that from the position you were in a few weeks ago you have managed to even get close to staying up is amazing.
It is a sad day when any of us South West clubs go out of the football league (Bristol City excluded!!). There is certainly not enough of us in the Football League doing well but today I will take this chance of wishing all you Gulls a speedy return to the Football League and hope upon hope that we won't be joining you next week. No doubt we will be taking as much notice of your score next week as our own game and we will know exactly what you are now going through and hope that we can do enough to avoid the pain.!!
Goodluck in the future.

I haven't shed a tear about our relegation, but it was heart-breaking having Rhysie in my arms crying and seeing Paul Bastard shed a tear also.

Oh what football can do to you.

Didn't stay to see the players but judging my your comments they are gutted and for some of them they do care. Couldn't be good seeing Paul like that he is a respected legend of a fan. :goodpost:

I am a mansfield fan. I am sad to see you drop out the league after your derversed win. Our players just did not want it and looked like they was on holiday. The football league has lost one of it's most friendly clubs. I did have a good bit of banter with some torquay fans before the game and when we played you at plainmoor earlier in the season. I did clap your players after the game. I feel i should apologize for some of stupid idiots, chanting u r going down and banging on the coache. who do not represent us all, as I walked by the away coache after the game and into the carpark. I know the feel very well, i can remember going to dag and redbridge last game of the season back in 2008, already been relegated by rotherham the game before. Before the game and after i had dag & red fans laughing at us saying have fun in the blue square. I was not amushed at all!. I am shaw u will bonce back, but might take u 2-3 seasons, u may surprize me and bounce straight back. It is that hard to get out of there as there is That many ex-league teams trying to get out of there. Good luck for next season.

Its kind of you to say nice things obout our beloved club, 1987 Stag. Its an awfull feeling, being relegated, especially when its "Out of the FL" Never mind. I'm sure we will be back...when I dont know, hopefully very soon. It took us 2 seasons, last (and only other) time. Hope we can leave it no longer than that.

No need for you to apologize for the behaviour of some of your fellow "supporters". Every club has its share of idiots, who take pleasure in other clubs misfourtunes. Someone had to go down, sadly, this year, it was our fate!!

I remember being at D&R a few years ago (When we were still in the conference I think it was)). They beat us and, some, of their fans were really very nasty, as we left the ground. Not just banter, but nasty. No need for that. I have never forgiven them for it, and being rather vindictive, hope they go down next year. Childish, I know.

Anyway, good luck to the Stags, next season, hope we get to meet you, in the FL, sooner rather than later. All the best. :)
