Not really a surprise as it's been on the cards for months but especially now as they look likely to return to non-league football. Could be interesting times at Forest Green who post losses of £5.4million.

I think he is double rr FrenchGull. I'm not sure I am quite so dismissive. For an Argyle man he seems to have attended Plainmoor pretty often. Always struck me he just enjoyed football. I am not sure you are correct in your financial analysis either.

If you're not paying someone then you can't really complain if they take a paying job. He was happy to help when he was free and available, then received a job offer. It's happened with Sturrock, Cox, Berry (last season) and will continue to happen whilst we take people on non-contracts. It's really the 'this is what's in it for you' part of them giving their time and experience for expenses only whilst they are here.

You're right frenchgull - he took a job as manager of a football league club with a guaranteed wage ahead of being Hargreaves advisor to a sinking ship (with the promise of as many out of date Mars Bars as payment).
Wanker got everything he deserved!

I have absolutely no problem with Sturrock at all - what sort of individual would turn down a promotion, a paid position and a proper contract in favour of an expenses only, no firm contract, job with a less well placed employer??? Let's be realistic here!!!
In fact, I would be absolutely delighted if there was any possible way that he could be brought in to help our young rookie Manager - he would be absolutely perfect for us in our current predicament. Of course it won't happen because we haven't got a pot to pee in !! Maybe the paying up of Hargreaves contract (as confirmed in the HE) and the departure of Dean Edwards as DOF - could free up sufficient wages to offer him something ? We live in hope!

Have Yeovil had the same owners in charge throughout their rise to the Championship and back again? Nice to see it's not just us with the ability to attract inept owners - maybe it's a South-West thing?

I agree with CP Gull.
Sturrock did a fantastic job at Plymouth. He has been good for football in the area. i personally wanted him given the chance when we appointed Chris Hargreaves. I felt he was the much safer option. However we can all claim the benefit of hindsight - in this instance perhaps both ways - as neither his stay with Yeovil nor Hargreaves reign at Plainmoor worked out.
I do feel he is a genuine football man.
If it works for all involved I would welcome him playing a role here.

I agree. Some people here are being unduly harsh on Paul Sturrock, in my humble opinion..

Even at his age a playing role would be good for us

I have nothing against the
guy but he ain't going down to collect his dole money every week so if he said I'll come and help torquay for no money why did he go off to take the Yeovil job,for their love of football or to put more cash in the bank.
