I can remember Raducioiu having to be restrained at the side of the pitch, but didn't see the challenge itself. He wasn't happy, that was for sure. Paolo Futre was the other big name signing they played that day.
Hah, yes, Paolo Futre, he of the dodgiest knees in football history. This was in the prime of Redknapp's "let's buy a load of foreigner and hope one of them turns out okay" period.

Don't give up on this thread Westlands. Our resident historians Trojan, Stefano and others will be along eventually (they're all VERY old so take their time) and they will fill you in with more information that you even thought possible.

Matt.

Jon gittens also missed a glorious chance from six yards in the Colchester playoff final. Was manager for Fareham Town now Chairman(not 100% sure) of the wessex league.

Yeah, he went properly mental. It was a horrific challenge, genuinely disgraceful - I don't like to agree with Redknapp too much, but he was absolutely right in this case.

Raducioiu was the guy whom Redknapp said went shopping when he should have been playing against Leeds.

Jon Gittens - does anybody else remember him fracturing Florin Raducioiu's cheekbone at a pre-season friendly vs West Ham? Think this would have been '96. Was practically an assault.

I went to that game with my father - one of only 2 that I ever went to with him - and as he was a West Ham fan it particularly galling for him. Torquay won the game 2-1, IIRC.

Thanks for all the help I received...just down to one or two bits now.

1987-8
Division Three/Four
Swansea 2-1 Torquay - May 25
Love goal time.
Torquay 3-3 Swansea - May 28
All six goal times.

Cheers in advance

I had a dirty Russian Bird drop in my garden the other day, Seemed to be a migrating swan or summat and it looked totaly knackered and filthy. You can have that one if you like. it looks as if it needed viagra to keep it standing up too.
Sorry can't help with other stuff. But clearly remember the Blackpool Wembley game. Had to travel part way back with the Blackpool fans. That evenatualy started the Glostergulls and we haven't looked back since.
Good luck in your venture though.
 :-D

But after 18 months working on the book, I could do with some 'cheap' viagra and a dirty Russian bird at the moment.... 8-]
Seriously, the email given will only be used until the end of this summer or until the project is finished.
Thanks for the heads up anyway.

About the only thing I can think of that might help, is the Herald Express or Western Morning News archives

I' trying to remember the Scunthorpe game. I thought we'd come down to Devon for that one, but thought we'd lost. Or was it that we played Scunthopre in the last league game and needed to win to go up. I seem to remember talking to some Scunthorpe fans on Newton Abbot station who said they would ahve rather lost as they'd have played someone different in the play off. So I'm not a lot of help then as on reflection it must have been the league & not playoff game that I went to.

Blackpool at Wembley was one of the great Torquay matches.
Colchester somewhat disappointing, especially coming back through Liverpol Street with thousands of happy Colchester fans.
