Could all be just a fluke or could it just be he has different role now from the ones Buckle gave him (perish the thought Father Jack is wrong! Why is punctuation important? This is why.

In point of fact, I am delighted that Manse is knocking them in, if for no better reason than the wager that he has with Nico. For those unfamiliar, if Manse gets his goal bonus from the club for the season (6 goals or more), then Nico will head over to Mansell Towers and cook player and wife (the delightful 'Shell) a three course dinner, then babysit the nippers while the parents attend a movie of their choice, and scoff down sweeties and premix Cola all at the expense of the rotund left back.

There was some mention that the cooking would be done while wearing only an apron, or that Eunan O' Kane would impersonate the family dog for a twelve hour day, but these ideas seem to have been abandoned for fear of outraging public decency.

Matt.

Someone help me... I saw Manse's name on the 'top scorers' list on BBC for League Two...

Although we lost another goal for Manse.

|f that was the case, i would have been at Bristol would I not?

I just make a careful study of the way we play and have done for some years now.

Stop arguing apples are oranges when they clearly are not - it is making you look a complete tool!
His role this season is exactly the same as it was last season when in midfield. Break up the opposition play trying to win the ball when the opposition has possession, and press forward to support the attack on their box when we're going forward. He did it enough times last season, just didnt get much luck with the resulting shots. The sublime first half against Crewe was probably a perfect example (possibly the best 45 minutes we played last season). As Mansell went forward to sniff out a shooting chance on the edge of the box, Nicky Wroe would drop back a bit to hold up any counter attack. When Nicky Wroe went forward, Mansell played the safety man (cast your mind back to the winning streak at the start of last season, they were doing exactly the same then). Thats nothing different to the matches against Burton and Aldershot. I wont presume to say they did the same at Rovers as I didnt go. As Mansell goes forward then Eunan holds back a bit, when Eunan goes forward, Manse stays a bit further back.

If you're that immature you wish to indulge in insults, then try and grow up a bit.

My memory is fine thanks!

I meant in the fact he is not played as a 'defensive' midfielder or a right back. The fact Ling has told him he is a box to box midfielder which is a new role for him to the ones I have seen him play at the club. Seems to be paying off don't it.

Strange how he could be found travelling between the two penalty boxes last season at will. Manys the time he would be pressuring their defence in possession just outside their area and then popping up with a challenge or block should they manage to get forward towards our area. If thats not the definition of a box to box midfielder, i dont know what is.
You know full well he has a different role this year compared to the roles Buckle ever gave him. He has a licence under Ling to get infront of play and ahead of the the ball.

I assumed it was still about Mansell.
I guess thats the problem with a small(ish) squad and budget. You have to make compromises at times and Im guessing it was considered more important to spend the playing budget on other aspects of the team than at right back where, lets face it, Mansell was certainly up to scratch for BSP and L2. Weve certainly seen a lot worse than either Mansell (or Robertson) at right back in the teams we've faced over the last couple of seasons (Shrewsbury is one that springs straight to mind :) ).

I haven't had a beer tonight. That must be the problem. My mind is free to think clearly and not clouded by the demon drink.

" Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor " . . . . . .

"Taylor'ing" . . . . . . (Taylor/Ling). ;-)

Then there's style and fashion.

Fashion is what the herd follow. Style is what the individual eventually tailors for theirself.

Taylor/Ling have assessed the squad and each player is suited to the position that fits. Maybe the position that fits is suited. That's the tailoring bit done.

Then there's tinkering. The ambitious journeyman tinker has moved on.

Back on topic : carry on Captain (Lee Mansell).

Fonda wrote:The fact remains he spent the majority of his time under Buckle at right-back. And not only because the manager failed to sign a proper right-back. Evidently last season we had a very capable one on loan, who ironically spent a lot of his time in midfield.
Try looking at the stats Fonda. Since we got back in the league, he has just edged games in midfield against games at right back. Wasnt Senda signed as a right back last season to see how he fitted in (and if he was up to matches)?
