Roger Lloyd Pack..

Post by diamondgirl »

Better known as Trigger in Only Fools And Horses has died. Very sad. End of an era.

One of the best quotes. Talking about Del boys baby:

"If its a girl they're gonna call it Sigourney, after the actress. If its a boy they're gonna name it Dave, after Rodney"

Classic.

Technically you are correct Brucie but is their really any need for the post?

For what it's worth, he was an actor, I didn't know him. I'd never met him or particularly liked his work apart from in Only Fools therefore although naturally it is sad, from a personal perspective I'm no more upset than if Mr X who runs a papershop in Teignmouth passed away. Or indeed Princess Di.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Fair enough Scott. Though I had clicked on the "Off Topic" thread. Obviously not. :)

End of conversation.

Only Fools And Horses is my favorite tv programme, I am a huge fan, I watch the repeats of it often, I own every episode either on vhs or dvd, it is the one programme I can watch over and over again and it never fails to make smile or laugh, certain episodes I have watched countless times and will watch many more times again.

Roger LLoyd Pack "Trigger" was a great character in the show and a part of its success, as with anybody famous who dies we might not know them but if they have made an impact on people in some way it is sad, but the way I look at it is at least they have left a legacy and be thankful for knowing them or their work.

Cheers "Trig"! :-D

Rodney
Trigger - why d'you call me
Dave? My name's not Dave -
my name's Rodney.

Trigger
I thought it was Dave!

Rodney
No, it's Rodney.

Trigger
You sure?

Rodney
Yeah, I'm positive. I've
looked it up on me birth
certificate and passport and
everything! It is definitely
Rodney!

Trigger
Oh well, you live 'n' learn -
so what's Dave, a nickname
like?

Rodney
No. You're the only one who
calls me Dave. Everybody else
calls me Rodney, and the
reason they call me Rodney is
because Rodney is my name.

Trigger
Oh well, I shall have to get
used to calling you Rodney!

Rodney
Thank you.

Trigger
(Calling to the
Chairman)
Here Basil. You gonna get this
meeting started?? Me and Dave
ain't got all night!

You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.

Good to see you back Chunks! That was kind of what I wanted to say in my post but probably didn't do a very good job of it. When someone famous dies and you've never met them they can still have an impact on your life, whether it be a pop star or writer or anybody and you do get upset if they touched you in some way. I find it perfectly acceptable if people get upset in these circumstances. I just found all the Princess Diana outbreak of grief sickening to be honest and it just proves how stupid people can be. Yes many had reasons to look up to her etc etc but the world went f*cking nuts when she died and acted like it was their mother who had passed on. Ridiculous. I'm not upset about Pack because I didn't know him, his work didn't have any impact on my life and although his passing is tragic it won't effect me in the slightest if that makes sense without me being insensitive. He was good in OFAH though.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Good points there Andy.

I agree about the Princess Di thing, the media whipped up a frenzy and many people went for it. she was a person many looked up to, she was admired, popular and well liked but the most tragic point was she left behind 2 young children.

The thing that got me was, like you say some people were reacting like it was a close relative or dare I say parent, some of the idiots went to London to lay flowers or just to be near all the action and a lot of these types of people dont even hardle ever travel a few miles to see their own parents or wouldnt even bother to put flowers on their own mothers graves.
You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.

To be honest boys, I didn't ask you to be upset, I was only commenting on

That's fine diamondgirl, I did think you must have held him in regard for posting it though but it doesn't matter either way. I know you didn't ask if anyone was upset about it. I thought I would just expand my answer a little as usual.

A fine comic actor who will be sorely missed by his friends garnered over a long career. Even as a RADA man, he stood out in terms of longevity.

His last TV work, The Old Guys, was a credit to him as both an actor and director. A real shining beacon in a sea of total mediocrity from the BBC in recent years.

Too young, still had much to give and a horrible way to die.

Matt.
