I hate it when we have no game, even if I'm not going. The weekend feels barren and passionately bereft.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

The club will believe the same and I'm sure the ground staff will do everything to get the game on

We midday be careful not to reduce this to a lottery, a coin flip on a mud bath which could even favour the Kick and Rush champions 2013.

Scott. You are awful......
Weather today is exactly what the forecasters said it would be, which is good because we have had very little rain, and the sun has occasionally shone. Bad news is, that if they are correct about tomorrow, its gonna rain, in the morning, which is not good. They did, however, say that because of the winds, out in the Atlantic, its difficult to predict tomorrows weather. So I dont think we will get a decision re. on/off until tomorrow mid/late morning.

This is my biggest worry, a heavy pitch is only going to favour one team and it aint us.ferrarilover wrote:We midday be careful not to reduce this to a lottery, a coin flip on a mud bath which could even favour the Kick and Rush champions 2013.

Have faith. How many heavy pitches must Greavsie have played on during his career? He'll know what we need to doPhilGull wrote: This is my biggest worry, a heavy pitch is only going to favour one team and it aint us.

Are we really this pretty, tiki taka team that's being hinted at here? Are we not just displaying a touch of football snobbery? I fear some might be guilty of looking through those yellow tinted spectacles. We don't have Russell and Fowler passing teams off the pitch anymore. The days are gone when we played flowing, passing football against cloggers every week. We're as likely to knock the ball long as anyone else nowadays.

Disagree with that. I'm not saying we're Barcelona, but we must have the smallest squad (physically) in L2. A lot of sides (NTFC particularly) aim their recruitment at guys who are taller, rather than better than anyone else. Even our goalkeepers are only 6'2" in their dancing shoes on a very, very good day. When Nico isn't in the side, we don't have anyone whose first thought is to look for the long ball. We have Benyon and Hawley up front, 5'6" between them. Our best players are Chappel (4'0") and Bodin (5'10", if he's lucky). We don't smash it long because we simply can't succeed in that style. There's no snobbery here, we do our thing and other sides do theirs. No criticism from me about Burton winning 1-0 every week. No criticism from me about Exeter trying to run a professional side on about £3.20/week and no real complaint about sides like NTFC and Mansfield Town who try to succeed by going back to front in one 80 yard pass. But let's not do ourselves a disservice, we're one of the better footballing sides in the division and we, especially at our place, need to make the most of that.
At Old Trafford, they have (had) a banner - "Man Utd: not arrogant, just better". If the cap fits...

My insinuation was not that we're a long-ball team. Merely an argument against this apparent belief that the style of our football is so much better than everyone else's. Our tactics generally vary between hitting the front man, and relying him to hold it, or play it into the channels for the wide men to chase. We don't pass through midfield as a rule, and why would we? With due respect to them, neither Manse or Lathrope are reknowned for their passing ability, so you have to play to your strengths. Labadie is better, but I wouldn't suggest pinging passes around is necessarily his strength either. The team is set up to get the ball forward, and get bodies forward in support of it - like many others in this division.
