Sorry Nick, I'd forgotten that the game was before the fatal site crash. Lost forever, what a real shame, that could have been an awesome thread to re-visit.

Hey guys, another Teyn fan here, an somebody who massively liked Ryan Gilligan. Cobblersfan has pretty mcuh covered it, but I'll give you my insight too.

Gilligan is the kind of player who you can guarantee will give you 100% in every match, he's a workaholic who will be a fantastic player for you. Personally, I see it as a mistake sending him out on loan, despite him being unable to get into the starting XI at present, as he works well as an impact substitute, too.

He definitely has talent, and goals in him (I believe he was our 2nd top scorer last season), and being only 24, he's only going to improve. Personally, I hope we get him back after a month, but it would certainly be good news for you if you signed him permantently.

Good look to Gilly, and good luck to the Gulls for the rest of the season (bar the games in which we play you, of course). :)

With regards to the people on the Hotel End, there are a fair few pricks (see- Marvo) but on the most part we're OK. They're right in saying that he's injured (ankle injury- having an op on it at the end of the season) and that he can't get into our starting XI, but he's still a very good player.

Seems like another good loan signing, well proven in League 2 and clearly rated by the Northampton fans (the sensible ones anyway!)

Welcome to the Yellow Army Ryan! :)

Such a shame. He really was a right laugh. I was gutted not to see what he said afterwards. :'(

Definitely don't think it's Matt, he'd have them in the palm of his hand by now, also not cutting or sarcastic enough.

Topic is Loan signing (couldn't post link straight to it, if someone else can, brilliant), this comes up at the bottom of page three.
I have faith in you SG, but these guys seem to think it's b***ocks.

These loan signings has got me pondering. Can we extend the loans ? Do they like it here ? Will they sign permanently ?

Glancing up briefly and viewing the near future, who will we retain and who will we release ?

A lot of them went before we hit January. One current player sticks out like a sore Tom Thumb : Danny Stevens. A certainty to be released in the summer.

I'm gonna take some flak from Danny fans for writing that.

Danny will move on at some point, perhaps the end of the season, but for me Macklin could move on. I know he is still in contract for a while so I'm probably completely wrong and I'm not basing this on his ability but rather that since the Oxford match he appears to be out of favour and is getting very little match time.

Dont, get me wrong, I think these signings are great, but will these signings not hinder our current youth crops development? The signing of Gilligan gives us 7 wingers.

Zebroski, Robinson, O'Kane, Macklin, Halpin, Stevens, Gilligan.

One of them surely has to go out on loan, we simply have to many. Id like to see Stevens gone at the end of the season to be honest, very good player, and I have a lot of respect for the lad, but I think if we wish to mount a 'promotion push' then we should look at someone with a bit more of variety than him, + i think he will want 1st team football. Id like to see Halpin or Macklin out on loan aswell. They say practice makes perfect, and with all these wingers, our young lot may get enough games, to be honest, dont want those 2 to end up like ben joyce or someone like that. Although, If we can get Gilligan and Stanley on permanents, I would be so pleased, both players who I believe could make it at league 1 standard. Very promising signings that put us well in with a shout of the play-offs, not quite sure how Buckle has managed to get 3 players from 3 league rival clubs? Maybe Gilligan was just a precaution with Eunan's injury, I dunno, but anyway, all 3 signings are coup's in my opinion. As I said, only negative thing about this is the youth players it might impact, although could react positively to this, more determined to fight for their place? I dont know, time will tell?

Jesus Moses - Some Northampton posters are complete pillocks. Sound of things just because they've got 7 brilliant midfielders & fatboy Harrad all of a sudden they're League Twos team to beat...with Gilligan having a fresh start he may, shock horror, fit brilliantly in our squad & do the dirty work & let O'Kane, Kee, Zebroski, Robinson etc. flourish.

I would imagine Mansell would never get this type of reception if he moved out on loan as I believe he is a very similar player, 100% without any stand out ability.

To be honest its quite embarrassing for a club as massive as Northampton to be trailing little Torquay in the league...& there's the 3-0 pasting on the opening day of the season....but I won't go into that. They probably only lost because Gilligan was playing.

The comments from the Cobblers fans echo what I expected of Gilligan - the sort of player of gives you a 7/10 rating in every game, pretty much without fail. rarely the best player on the pitch, but never the worst. If he is to play out wide (TBH I'm not 100% sure if he does or not), it will hopefully give us a bit more consistency than Stevens.

Interesting that some think Stevens will be first out the door in the summer. The thing with Danny is for the first 10mins he's on the pitch he's devestating - pace and trickery and showing the full back inside and out. But when we were at the Stevenage game earlier this year, a mate summed him up perfectly:

"The best winger in league 2..............for 10mins. But once the full back works out he's a one-trick pony, he's anonymous"

and I think that is quite a good summary. Great impact player but I think you can count on the fingers of one hand the number of games he's sustained that threat over 90mins. The fact that he often is subbed (or brought on if the likes of Rose, Hemmings or Macklin were starting) is almost a wasted sub as you know its going to happen. Hopefully Gilligan will offer us some added strength, nous and consistency out wide, and I'm looking forward to seeing how he gets on at Barnet on Saturday.

I love that saying . . ."one trick pony" . . . especially when the player referred to is a donkey with a reputation for hoofing it.
