Kit
Kit
Now minor issues like the takeover are sorted, isn't it about time attention was turned to important concerns like if we are having a new kit or not? :-|
If we are staying with the same kit, can the consortium return it to all yellow as it was initially designed? The yellow, blue, white we ended up with looked a mess.

Shirts, shorts, long socks, and boots.
Oh, and colours: gold (shirts), blue (shorts) and brown (boots).

Really? I thought it looked really good and reflects the colours of the English Riviera!

Not sure I like the idea of a red kit, thoughHave we got time to produce an old 80's throw back kit? I love the kit the FC Manchester adopted.

Well, I have to say I am really disappointed with this news, I shall have to give Steve Breed a call and express my dis-satisfaction with this decision.(wonder what his answer will be)
I am not a fan of all yellow, it looks a bit boring, bland and unimaginative, I was hoping to retain the blue shorts as it breaks up the kit and looks a lot smarter, I would have been happy with that with yellow socks but the white socks wouldnt have bothered me. Its the only piece of news this week that I have been disappointed with though, so thats not a bad thing if the only thing to moan about is a pair of yellow shorts.

Cant agree with you Hector, it should always be yellow shirt, blue shorts and yellow socks. The kit as a whole isnt bad, I agree the ensemble we ended up with at the end of last season didnt quite work, it wouldnt have bothered me if we had kept it though, all yellow bothers me more. I would suggest a different, slightly brighter yellow and blue in future as the current shades we have are a bit dark and bland, the home shirt especially now with its two tone hoops isnt quite right, it almost looks a little bit green. I would like to see a design style and colour shade something like Chelseas current yellow away kit next season with the blue shorts.

Adopt a Chelsea kit? Are you Dave Webb in disguise?!

No, and I certainly dont support Chelsea either before anyone starts, I just thought when I saw that yellow and blue combo earlier in the season that its a true and proper representation of what a Torquay United kit should be, even the style is great.Postby PhilGull » 36 minutes ago

I still cant believe some of the things I have heard that Webb did here, that blue and white Chelsea kit was one of the low points, it took our own identity away.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, never ever do I want to see white with bits of yellow and blue or any hint of white on the home shirt ever again. That thing they turned up in during 88/89 season put me off for ever (Last match of the season Jimmy Smith offered me his shirt over by the snack bar after he had been subbed and I turned it down, coz it was awful, wish I hadnt now but never mind) , and dont get me started again on yellow and white stripes. I dont ever want to see any white on the home shirt or shorts in any way, shape or form, if we have a Brazil with yellow shirt, blue shorts and white socks then that would be fine, admittedly last years wasnt perfect but a better, brighter design with that combo would be pretty good.hector wrote:Being a child of the 79/80 season, part of me would be happy with a white kit...if Buckta could be revived to make it - even better.

Yes - the 88/89 white kit wasn't a thing of beauty, with that strange yellow bib - although it was probably the first replica shirt I ever bought - I might dig it out for a game this season, while I think of it.
We wore white for 8 years from 1974 - 1982 plus the season 88/89, so my earliest memories of TUFC and my early seasons were with us wearing white. When we changed to yellow and blue, for Bruce Rioch's first season as manager, it did feel strange at the time.
That whole era at the time saw us wearing template kits from buckta, umbro and even osca (the wretched blue kit) - so other clubs in the division were wearing exactly the same kits but in their own colours. Even the original yellow and white stripes was a template - a yellow and white version of the same Exeter had at the time, while our purple away kit of 91/92 was exactly the same as the away kit of Notts County, and a blue and white striped away kit from the mid-90s was the same as a the home kit Chester had at the same time (I made the mistake of wearing mine the day we played them at home).
The Superleague kit of Rodney Jack era was exactly the same in style as those sported by Brighton, Lincoln and many other teams and it wasn't until Vandanel became our supplier that we started getting bespoke kits.
Look on footballshirtculture.com or historicalkits.co.uk and you can see how those teams with puma, adidas or nike kits just have template shirts the same as anyone else using the same brand, therefore no individuality or respect for history. QPR had to wear narrow hoops last year, not because they chose them but because Nike didn't do shirts with wide hoops, so some farcical explanation is usually provided linking to the club's history but in reality it is because they can only select from certain designs.
Sondico are making some of the nicer shirts for lower divisions teams at the moment - a nod to history and individuality. I'm hoping that the new white away kit they are designing for this season is the classic from 1974. That would sell plenty I would imagine.

I'm with Chunky. We ARE the Brazil of the Westcountry and should wear the kit accordingly at home and away whenever possible. Don't go for this away kit lark at all, one team one kit unless there is a clash. I'm sure more home shirts would be bought if they played in the same colours away and people were therefore getting more value out of their purchase. Change of kit away should only happen rarely. Not only that, the colours worn by the Yellow Army would be representative of the colours of our team on the pitch. Is it compulsory we have a different away kit - something in the league rules?
