Bath Away jan 19th
Bath Away jan 19th
Those of you thinking of going to Bath away on January 19th a return train journey from Torbay - Bath is only £22, considering the form we are in, it would be brilliant to try and match the levels of support we took up to Weston, so hopefully cheap train travel will persuade a few more to make the journey!
It does say on the website there are limited tickets available at that price so may need to book soon!

We booked our tickets for the train a couple months back for the Bath game, a load of us going on the same train. I wouldn't be surprised if the train was full of us all.

I never go on Trains if I can possibly avoid it.
The worst Rail Service in the whole of Europe.
Overcrowded, overpriced and unreliable.
We are the laughing stock of Europe when it comes to trains.

I agree our train services are awful, particularly in the Midlands and North, but in my experience Europeans always complain that their rail service is rubbish as well which surprised me. Though maybe coming from the UK I had low standards for what counts as good service.portugull wrote: 27 Dec 2018, 16:35 I never go on Trains if I can possibly avoid it.

Trains can get overcrowded at times but if you book ahead you'll get a seat so it shouldn't be an issue then. If you turn up on the day that is when you pay high prices and may have to stand. £22 for a return to Bath is very good plus you can relax and have a drink.portugull wrote: 27 Dec 2018, 16:35 I never go on Trains if I can possibly avoid it.

I prefer the train if it works out on price and is nearby to the ground. Think about how much it costs to get to Bath (from Torquay) and back as a true cost... £0.45 per mile is the standard mileage charge to cover fuel, wear and tear etc, so 208 miles x 0.45 = £93.60 as a true cost, plus parking. You've done the best part of £100 AND the hassle of driving etc like I say.
Give me a train every time!

Midlandgull the way I see it is if you own a car you do not own it to leave it in the garage.
You just cannot rely on Trains to be on time, if they run at all, and they are nearly always overcrowded and the system with so many operators is a total nightmare.
I gave up on trains a long time ago.

Portugal go Faro to Porto and First Class is affordable.
I worked for a company based there.
TBH though its bound to be - seeing as their clocks are the best and the trains are always on time....

F**king Stephensons' Rocket would be better, more comfortable, on time and quicker than these sh*t pacer trains that we have to suffer....

Portugull, what about just enjoying a day out not having to drive? I see driving as a chore myself. I own a car and use it frequently, but often feel the train is a great way to go. The rat racers experience all the crap with trains and are at the mercy of them (as are car commuters on the packed roads). But overall, trains are pretty reliable in my experience and again, if booked ahead, you get your seat. From the midlands I find the trains to be good - Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Manchester all easy to get to for really cheap if booked ahead - I find the trains in the South West to be more pricey, so £22 return to Bath is a steal!
