National League South...

Post by jamestee67 »

National League South table. 1st-7th only three points between the teams. It may go to goal difference at the end of the season. I guess it is exciting. As long as Torquay come out on top... :|

After Maidstones draw tonight the top 5 are all on 52 points. Don't think I've ever seen that before in the last week of January.

The usual roller coaster ride for us Torquay fans. If only we'd taken the doable 9 points from the last three games we'd be in a wonderful position but we never do things the easy way do we?

Our next three games are against teams also on 52 points.
Good or bad results in those could have a huge effect on our season.

It's not just you I don't think, there's a whole host of six pointers within in the pack. After tonight's game we (Worthing) now only have yourselves in the next few weeks from the leading group.

Someone eventually has to take this league by the scruff of the neck, the lead has been passed round like a hot potato, so with all the points that have to be won/lost in these many head to heads in the next 4-5 weeks we'll have a better idea who it'll be.

It sure ain't dull.

As if by magic, here comes Keithsson posting on the Torquay board after a Worthing win. It's no surprise he doesn't keep the same energy when they lose though, nowhere to be seen. Zzzzzzz.

As welcoming as ever DVN, thank you. Haven't posted for ages, given how many we've won lately how does that work if I only post after a win 😉

Anyways...

I think the point was a fair one... it's not just the six pointers our own clubs have coming up that are significant. With such a tight league there are loads of significant fixtures going on that don't directly involve ourselves too.

Being 3pts clear, in a favourable situation top of the tree and of course jumping above us in the table may have something to do with it.

Going to be a tough ask but we really must finish in the top three, or else it could mean 2 maybe all 3 play off games away on 3G ( correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Worthing, Maidstone, Dorking,
Eastbourne, Truro all have them)
No reason why we shouldn't be successful on them
but we rarely are .
A semi final and final at Plainmoor at least gives us a chance.

I know Truro have a grass pitch, but I think they’re the only ones of the teams you have mentioned that do

They are.

The only way to guarantee a 3G free play-off promotion is to finish top two. 1st obviously you're up, 2nd you get a home Semi Final and home Final if you win that. If you finish third you'd only get a home final if the 2nd placed team got knocked out by a Quarter Final winner.

Edit: saying that... the league could opt for a neutral venue Final. I haven't looked into the competition rules for this season but I know last season it wasn't confirmed where the final would be until really quite late as they were exploring the possibility of a neutral venue.

The other problem with most of the potential opponents is that away allocation would be small. Around 500.
Neutral venue would be far better and perhaps the size of our support might help sway that decision.
Finishing 2nd is a huge advantage in the play offs. As it should be.

Dorking conceded late equaliser to draw at Hampton & Richmond so are now a point clear at the top, four points ahead of us but we have two games in hand.
Dorking away is another important game as it was last time we played there, a loss after which it was going to be hard for us to stay up.
