Interesting game, first half was a non affair
We did play it a lot more on the deck, Cooke again had 3 big CBs against him and got nothing all game
Eastbourne weren't that interested in going for it, slowing everything down and in that last 15;it was only us going for the win
We just seemed to click, get a bit more aggressive and play on the front foot
I think it consisted of Young going off, I'm not sold on him, doesn't look overly interested and is a far cry from his first appearance
Hamon made a fantastic save in the 2nd half
Thought Palmer and Craske were very good too
Crowd was vocal and helped push us on
Ref, okay in the first half but lost control in the 2nd half

Guess we all see things differently, Young wasn’t his best, but I don’t think him leaving changed things, with so much hoof ball going on he never had a chance to play to his strength of running at players. I felt we only really improved because Eastbourne visibly tired in the last twenty minutes. I felt sorry for Jay, a quality player who ended up like a headless chicken with all the lofted stuff going on.
We tried to play it on the ground for maybe 5 of the 96 minutes. Our first choice 11 were just starting to show the football they’re capable of, unfortunately outside of that first 11, we return to the hoofball of old. It will take time to assemble a squad were every player can come in and fit straight into our style of play.

Yes, we did and in the final analysis that is all that matters, but the first half never looked we would get anything from the game and the first 15 second half minutes when they came at us, but you could see yesterday in the likes of hayfield and palmer thinking there must be a way through eastbourne because they were constantly trying something different, a few have been critical of young but when you have three opposition players follwoing you round as if they are your best friends it doesnt give him much opportunity to show what he can do, what it should have done and didn't was to give far more space for jay and cooke who have not jelled yet.
I thought Carson did very well second half after a slow start and Cooke played and battled well as usual in his thankless task .
As Modgull said I'd like to see one of the centre backs bring the ball forward with a bit of pace when the space opens up in front of them or a midfield player drive forward to create as bit of uncertainty in the opposition defence
and still not enough shots , just try your luck !
I'm sure Jay will get better with each game and will be on the score sheet before long.

I think we went long far less than some recent gamesTaelee73 wrote: 09 Feb 2025, 07:57 Guess we all see things differently, Young wasn’t his best, but I don’t think him leaving changed things, with so much hoof ball going on he never had a chance to play to his strength of running at players. The problem we encountered was with the back 5 the ball gets stuck at the wing backs, EB pressed both of them when recieving the ball meant it went back to the CBs a lot of the time and then after a couple attempts you pump it long and lose it
A back 5 suits Carson but I don't think its comfortable for Thomas he looked a bit lost at times. Carson defensively isn't strong enough in a back 4 so it's what you would prefer
Jay came into his own in the 2nd half, you can tell he'll get better and better once fitter
Youngs body language yesterday was poor for me

We’d eliminated the hoof ball feature in recent weeks as our first 11 were starting to gel, understanding their roles etc, playing it on the ground had helped create 5 or 6 great opportunities in the previous home game, although none were taken. It just seems to me that now we have injuries, the current first 11 aren’t as confident/don’t know their places in the formation/style of play or simply have less quality, Mussa has stacks but is so inconsistent, brilliant one moment and awful the next.
I don’t feel Young wasn’t interested, more that the ball simply bypassed him time after time as it was launched long, the same for Jay. He had virtually no time on the ball, yet always looked like he could supply an intelligent pass or whatever, unfortunately again the ball bypassed him for most of the game. I think with our first choice 11, both players will thrive in a team that plays football, not hoof ball. I haven’t rated Carson for some time, yet yesterday I thought especially second half he was much improved.
I’m assuming Tuesdays team will be similar to the one that got stuffed up there 5-1 in the cup, I don’t think the opposition will be as generous to us yesterday, so I’ve written it off already and anything from it would be a bonus for me.

I thought yesterday was all about 3 points for the Gulls and we got them by being relentless in the last 20 minutes.
It was not boring as we ran Eastbourne ragged towards the end. This was our 7th clean sheet at home from 16 games conceding just 11 goals. Very good I would say.
We also have 3 clean sheets away from home.3 of our next 4 games are away at Worthing, Chelmsford and Weston Super Mare all in the top half of the Table with Worthing being a real test in their current form. They are Top of the Form Table with 5 wins in a row.

Just listened to their manager, seems Eastbourne were the better side , and they should have had two penalties, one of which was blatant and the ref bottled it. ??!!
Struggling to remember either to be honest, unless he meant the blatant dive by their player with Palmer.

More of a penalty when Dreyer was hauled down from a corner by their number 15 , they are never given though it seems. Their player then decides to hold his head claiming a knock of some sort .
What a superb weighted and executed pass from Cooke though for Mussa's goal and very cooly taken.
